“Let’s face it, the world needs more Pee-Wee Herman” says Judd Apatow. It sure does. It could probably stand a cloned army of Pee Wees. My only question, Mr. Apatow, about your plans for a new Pee Wee Herman movie is this: how does it effect the chances of the current Pee Wee’s Playhouse revival transferring to London for a West End run?
Paul Reubens – Pee Wee’s alter ego – is scripting the movie with Paul Rust. Variety‘s report on the film note that Pee Wee’s Big Adventure played to a full house just this last weekend in LA, after which Reubens indulged the crowd with an hour long Q&A. At least some of the credit for that film’s everlasting love must go to Big Adventure director-for-hire Tim Burton. I still think it’s one of his best. Dare I dream that he’ll sign on to direct this new movie?
I’m happy now. And don’t forget: bow ties are cool.
