Is A Manhattan Comic Shop War Imminent?

Is A Manhattan Comic Shop War Imminent? There are a lot of comic shops in Manhattan.

Some big, some small, some chain, some one-man, some basement, some multi-purpose, they maintain a precious balance, covering the area, some rise, some fall, some get bought, some collapse.

But of late there has been relative stability. Jim Hanley, Midtown, Forbidden Planet, St Mark's, Cosmic Comics, Metropolis Collectibles, Time Machine, Alex MVP, JC Comics And Cards, Chameleon Comics,  Funny Business, Comic Networks, Electric Comics, Village Comics, All Comics…

But most of them are clustered together a little, forming a kind of comic spine down the island.

I understand that a rather large new store will be opening shortly,  downtown Manhattan.

Will it tip the island at all? Will competitors react? Will there be deals for exclusive signings, cherry-picking competitor staff, a price war? I simply don't know.

If you have any ideas about venue, name or owner, do let Bleeding Cool know.
