Lying In The Gutters May 3rd 2010

Lying In The Gutters May 3rd 2010Hello folks! Well that was the week that had Free Comic Book Day in it. But it's been a busy week at Bleeding Cool all round. Let's have a run through…

Ten Most Popular Posts This Week

1. Iron Man 2 Post Credits Sequence

It may have raised the ire of Collider. But breaking out the post-credits sequence of Iron Man 2 as well as the reveal it promised for Thor caused a bit of a storm. And a flurry of hits. The video was removed, the screencap wasn't. Bleeding Cool received no instruction to remove it. And plenty of sites too timid to post it themselves linked across…

2. Kevin Smith Voicing Free Comic Book Day Ad

I had this idea a way back. Brendon Connelly took it on and Kevin Smith provided the voice. And then it got tweeted by Jonathan Ross in what may be the first inklings of a makeup between the two, as well as MTV, Wired and Kevin himself. And people seemed to like it too. Now to start thinking about next year's ad. And you know what? I've got an idea.

3. Alan Moore Creating Supergroup

A new Alan Moore CD featuring a Gorillaz-like collection of stars, including Mike Patton. I really should have gone for the Faith No Moore headline shouldn't I?

4. The Comic Book Movie That Actually Did Rather Well Last Week

Okay this was a surprise. Reporting a decent box office for a comic-to-film that had previously been much reported but too many hadn't heard of apparently. Long live Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec!

5. Thursday Runaround – Destroy All Set Leaks!

And there I thought relegating a set leak from Thor featuring The Destroyer was only suitablke for Runaround filler. I may have possibly been mistaken on that one.

6. Avengers Movie Poster Leaked?

Okay, no, no it wasn't. But it was a rather fine Photoshop job using the limited assets available.

7. The Look Of Thor

I learned quickly. Got a set leak? Up front and central sir! Up front and central! Even if this one was fully Paramount sanctioned.

8. Batman Porn XXX Parody Box Cover Leaks

What a lovely title there. Leaks, dribbles, whateverI have long learned the lesson that putting Batman and Porn into a URl of an article brings the punters flocking. Oh look I've done it again today.

9. Iron Knives Out For Iron Man

I got an email about this one strongly questioning my bias for running prominent negative reviews here and not, say, the Aint It Cool Harry Knowles review. Well first, Godzilla. And secondly I hadn't seen it. And weirdly? The nature of the poor reviews (too much talky not enough explody) make me want to see it more.

10. First Appearance Of New New Avengers?

Could X-Factor #204 be the key book that leads up to Avengers #1? Is this the first post-Siege appearance of the trinity of Iron Man, Captain America anfdThor? Or just some odd coincidence…

Bubbling Under

Just shy of the top ten we saw JMS' response to Superman rumours, Jim Lee's cover for Legion, Thundercats Steve Perry with an appeal to us all, a mini-glitch at Amazon that lasted a couple of hours, a very silly Batman/Grant Morrison Swipe File, Mark Waid's stories make a reappearance, a slightly controversial headline, and Conan O'Brien and Jim Carrey as singing superhero cosplay, and the Smurfs returning to America ahead of an upcoming CGI feature.

Five Stories You Should Have Read But May Have Missed

1. An exhausted run around the UK on Free Comic Book Day.

2. A real life Spider-Man hero taking down a shoplifter on Free Comic Book Day.

3. Zuda abandoning the open competititive side of its publishing model. Expect a reorganisation of DC Comics solicitations company-wide as a result… sometime.

4. Let The Wrong One In – since the original reporting of this piece, I understand Dark Horse has contacted original Let The Wrong One In writer John Ajvide Lindqvists and reached an agreement over their upcoming spinoff comics.

5. Check your rings! It could be you!

Five Things I Should Have Linked To

1. Guerilla marketing the Batman movies in the 1940s.

2. Daniel Best interviewing Gene Colan about his recovery.

3. Rick Veitch's predictions for 2011… in 2001.

4. Johanna Draper Carlson reviews the Free Comic Book Day's comics.

5. The Daily Mail have their slowest news day ever. In the middle of a General Election campaign.

Six Columnists To Thank

A big thank you to the work by columnists Adi Tantimedh, Eric M Esquivel, Si Spurrier, Martin Conaghan, Joel Meadows and Shea Hennum. Hmm. there seem to be quite a lot of you all of a sudden. Excellent.
