Marvel Announces The Heroic Age In USA Today

MarvelWatch: Joe Quesada has used USA Today to launch The Heroic Age to launch a new era of light'n'brighty superhero comics at Marvel, instead of the more grim'n'gritty we've been used to of late. Quesada is quoted as saying;

Heroes will be heroes again. They've gone through hell and they're back to being good guys — a throwback to the early days of the Marvel Universe, with more of a swashbuckling feel.

With Brian Bendis quoted as saying;

The 'brand new day' of the Heroic Age presents a tonal shift to optimism, a world filled with hope but quite hellish villains. The heroes realize it's a blue-sky world worth protecting…. This was always the whole point — the reunion, the Avengers getting back together, because this is what the world needs right now. Now we get to the good stuff.

They also go to quite considerable lengths to emphasise that this change in tone was always planned and not some kind of Disneyfied imposition. And, considering I heard the first murmurings of the change back in San Diego, it sounds quite plausible.

But that won't stop the internet though.

Notice we have a Gorilla-Man… but no Wolverine! Evidence if any were needed of a new tone…
