Bleeding Cool, Official Blogging (And Blagging) From Big Apple Comic Con

wizarduniverse_2073_1098438769Remember, it's not called Wizard World anymore. Not that it ever was. Just the Big Apple Comic Con. I went to one of them before Wizard bought it up and it was fun, but small. I understand that this show may be a leeeetle larger. And they've got William Shatner.

Wizard are flying me in to New York to be their official blogger for the show so there's another nice conflict of interest to add to the list. I love conflicts of interest, especially the sound they make when they topple over.

This is of course an insane situation to be in. It was only a few years ago I was informed that Wizard Magazine had sounded out people about using me for the magazine but were told many companies would withdraw advertising if they did. Now, apparently, more exhibitors will attend the con if I'm there to write about them. I've got no content guidelines, no restrictions, Wizard just want the publicity for what is, for them at least, a new show. And without a Reed NYCC to challenge them until October next year, Wizard want to make this year really count in the New York market. Basically, positive or negative, they want me to write, write, write.

I think I can do that.

It's a very strange world indeed, isn't it?

Avatar's editor-in-chief William Christensen was quoted as saying "Thank Glycon I don't have to actually pay to ship Richard in for this convention. I mean,  forget business or first class, he has to sit in the cockpit the whole way. Do you know what that costs in terms of FAA bribes?"

Avatar will naturally be there, with Mike Wolfer and Christos Gage in tow, and a massive stand (number 533, fact fans!) that will in all likelihood be the biggest comics booth of the entire show. It's huge. It's colossal. You simply won't be able to miss us. And everyone will think it's promoting the new James Cameron film.

They will have a 250 limited edition hardcover of Wolfskin, as well as Big Apple exclusive editions of Absolution, Anna Mercury, Chronicles Of Wormwood and Crossed for you to lug around the show cursing the weight.

Odds are with today's news, and Mike Wolfer there, they may also be selling quite a lot of Gravel.

Other guests for the show include Joe Quesada, Jim Lee, Christian Serratos, William Shatner, Jim Steranko, all the Kuberts, Neal Adams, JG Jones, Joe Madueira, Joe Simon… I bet you even CB Cebulski will be there. And while the companies aren't setting up any booths, the location means that a bunch of Marvel and DC people are very likely to pop by.

There will be an official Bleeding Cool/Avatar panel on the Sunday and I hope as many of you can make it as possible. There may be a few Bleeding Cool T-shirts to throw in the ground in an attempt to start a riot. But the best part about the Bleeding Cool panel? It's going to be scheduled against the Twilight Q&A panel. Which means any attendee to the Bleeding Cool panel will be guaranteed to get a) a seat and b) a sparkly-vampire-free hour. Twilight may destroy cons… but Bleeding Cool saves them!
