Doctor Who – Building A Location In The Welsh Village Of Llandaff

IMG_9907Over the last few days, Llandaff Village Green in Wales has been transformed into "Leadworth", a nineties English village, for the teh first episode of the new Doctor Who shoot. Alun Vega has been on the scene with a handy camera, as well his own eyes and ears. Here we can see signs being changed and props arranged… consider this a Spoiler Warning from hereon in.

As the new Doctor Who people show us what The Prisoner, Miss Marple and Hot Fuzz knew, that the British village can be a scary place that hides all sorts of unpleasantness… here's what they've been creating, fake flowers and all;

The pub is renamed The Travellers Rest… Of course there's a few people everyone really wants to see;

William Christensen of Avatar tells me he's never really got the appeal of Doctor Who. Here you go William, this one's for you.

IMG_9794Karen Gillan as Amy Pond there. Not to be confused with Kieron Gillen. And after that impersonation of St Trinian's here one of Reservoir Dogs…

And Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, then One Foot In The Grave.

Arun Twitters aplenty, but here are a few notable twits.

Matt and Karen rehearsing on location. Matt wearing Ten's suit (no jacket, same tie as final specials)

The Ten suit is looking worse for wear. The shirt has lots of small rips and black streaks, as if Ten was caught in an explosion.

I was asked nicely by the 2nd unit on the village green not to take pics. The 1st unit (MS+KG) is ok with us taking pics.

One of our youngest set reporters (Nubia) heard Amy say something to the Doctor about "12 years of therapy"

From overheard dialogue, the Doctor running to the icecream van may be a result of "weird food cravings". Post-regeneration trauma?

Extras seem to be frozen in place on the green, holding their mobiles out as if taking a picture.

Great physicality from Matt. Throwing himself around. He just jumped into that flowerbed by the White House. Good thing they're fake!

Anyone from Llandaff got their own stories to tell?

UPDATE: Okay here's another great one…
