It's… Torchwood Monday, Folks!

tw

Tonight BBC1 shows the first of the new five-part Torchwood TV series, Children of Earth,  a new episode at 9pm each day this week. Directed by Euros Lyn, who BleedingCool pointed out as the director of the upcoming Doctor Who movie.

io9 who kindly followed up on the BC piece point out that the movie is rumoured to be announced at San Diego – being attended by Russel T Davies, David Tennant and… Euros Lyn. Thanks guys.

Russell T Davies and Euros Lyn discussed the new Torchwood series with the cast at the British Film Institute last week and highlights can be streamed from the BFI's website.

Torchwood ran three radio episodes last week, available for streaming here, here and here and downloading here. Oh and why not have a Front Row interview about it all with Russell T Davies .

The first episode, Asylum, has a real Moore/Thorpe Captain Britain feel with a refugee from the future running to our present, to find a very different world with strange similarities. A little mawkish and with Captain Jack going all atypically xenophobic on us, it's a very effective mood piece.

The second, Golden Age, uses the budget aspects of radio to the full, setting the story in Delhi, and a specific Torchwood Embassy-style building that plays with the nostalgia some have for the British Empire and the impact it had around the world, as well as giving Jack's centuries-long love life another run around the block.

The third, Dead Line,  also finds an elderly ex-shag of Jack's and has a rather ludicrous infection-by-phone that I, um, would never use in my upcoming Doctor Who oneshot comic next month (damn damn damn) but uses a variety of phone sounds to full effect on the radio, creating a solid soundscape for the team to fight against. This is also the best episode for all you Jack/Ianto slashficcers to delve into…

Post your thoughts below!

UPDATE: I wonder if the whole thing will end with Jack and Ianto at it, intoning "We are coming! We are coming!"

Just saying
