Laura Dern Says David Lynch Is Cooking Up Another Film For Her
During the promotions for Inland Empire, David Lynch sat around with acow, leveraging its all-round bovine loveliness in a call for theAcademy and other awards groups to recognise Laura Dern. Here's avideo of that, just so you don't think I'm making it up.
It's clear that Lynch recognises Dern's talents. In each of theirthree films together he gave her a better part, from Blue Velvetthrough Wild at Heart and into Inland Empire. The latter is a mess andrather too slipshod for its delicate construction to come off, but itsure gave Dern a good part.
Nice to know, then, that Lynch and Dern are "cooking" up a newcollaboration. She mentioned the film to The LA Times, but the onlyother detail she shares is that there's no script as yet.
I doubt she literally means script. I doubt Inland Empire literallyhad a script. Bits of a script, maybe. A structure. An outline. Lotsof prose. Pictures of flies sellotaped to beef chops, maybe. But ascript? I'm not so sure about that.
But even if they base their film on the graffiti in a public toilet,It'll be good to see Lynch and Dern back together again.
The profile in the LA Times, incidentally, was published to promotethe return of Dern's HBO show Enlightened. I think I shall give thatone a punt. An uncomfortable comedy drama about a woman recovering from a total breakdown certainly sounds like my kind of thing.

I wasn't a big fan of Inland Empire (although the sound design was impeccable), but seeing as it's the only Lynch film that I don't have much time for, I would be happy to see him go back on his word (if, indeed, he ever did say he wasn't going to make any more features).
Of course, it might not be a feature film, per se...

So, the rest of Lynch's films did have scripts? What do they read like?ShadowMax prefers Valiant comics. The choice of the brave.

Ah, I remember the days when 'attractive' actors like Laura Dern, Glen Close, Rick Moranis and Bob Hoskins were kings of the big screen
