Default How Marvel And DC Plan To Dominate February Marketshare!

February is coming, the marketplace is getting fat. But how can Marvel and DC squeeze an extra point in this month's statistics? By offering retailers deals like this.

Exceed 200% of total orders of Avengers Vs. X-Men #11 with orders for Uncanny X-Men #1 an get an an extra 15% discount off. 175% for 10% off. Or 150% for 5% off.

Exceed 175% of total orders of Avengers Vs. X-Men #11 with orders for Uncanny X-Men #2 an get an an extra 15% discount off. 150% for 10% off. Or 125% for 5% off.

Exceed 150% of total orders of Avengers Vs. X-Men #11 with orders for Superior Spider-Man #3 or #4 and get an an extra 10% discount off. 115% for 5% off.

Exceed 125% of total orders of AvX Vs. #6 with orders for Young Avengers #2 and get an extra 15% discount off. 115% for 10% off. And 105% for 5% off.

Exceed 175% of total orders of AvX Vs. #3 with orders for Savage Wolverine #2 and get an extra 15% discount off. 150% for 10% off. And 125% for 5% off.

Exceed 150% of total orders of AvX Vs. #6 with orders for Fearless Defenders #1 and get an extra 15% discount off. 125% for 10% off. And 115% for 5% off.

Exceed 150% of total orders of AvX Vs. #4 with orders for Nova #1 and get an extra 15% discount off. 125% for 10% off. And 115% for 5% off.

Exceed 175% of total orders of AvX Vs. #6 with orders for New Avengers #3 and get an extra 15% discount off. 150% for 10% off. And 125% for 5% off.

Exceed 150% of total orders of AvX Vs. #6 with orders for Secret Avengers #1 and get an extra 15% discount off. 125% for 10% off. And 115% for 5% off.

Exceed 125% of total orders of Amazing Spider-Man #693 with orders for Morbius The Living Vampire #2 and get an extra 15% discount off. 115% for 10% off. And 105% for 5% off.

Meanwhile DC Comics is doing similar with the launch of their new titles. To a slightly smaller degree...

Match or exceed 75% of orders of Justice League Of America #1 with Green Arrow #17 or Katana #1 or Vibe #1 and get an extra 15% off.

This can in some cases give retailers a much larger profit margin, especiallywhen combined with variant cover programmes and soon it pays for retailers to order those higher amounts than now...

Why is there a Point One issue for a new series? Why not start at issue one?

"Exceed 125% of total orders of Amazing Spider-Man #293 with orders for Morbius The Living Vampire #2 and get an extra 15% discount off. 115% for 10% off. And 105% for 5% off."

What retailer still has the figures on what they sold in 1988?

I was hoping the answer was going to be "put out quality comics". Silly me.

Its probably an origin story where Bendis drastically changes all the characters and possibly where he explains why Starlord has went all peroxide. and why Gamora has become a prude. and how Pete got out the cancerverse.

Oh, I know the answer to the second one. It has to be the same reason Dejah Thoris wore(lol, originally wrote this with an h, talk about a Freudian slip^^) so many clothes in the John Carter movie!
Too much naked green/gray skin is too risky for Disney.

For retailers this is simply a calculation probably, weighing how much they have to sell in the dollar or 0,50 cent bin, against what they can earn from variants and the higher profit margin of the rest. Of course it's also a gamble.
And also of course, it makes the Diamond Charts even more useless (they are useless already because they only cover North-American sales) when you only get figures that are manipulated like this.
PLEASE CONSIDER putting SilverSmurfer on ignore due to his factually incorrect and hysteric claim that "Uber" is a "historically revisionist nazi fantasy," and that we should boycott Avatar for it.
    Thank you for your Considerations.

I like DC's approach much more. Seems less likely to fill the dollar bins with unwanted copies while still benefiting the shop owners.

Unfortunately, NONE of those books will sell-through in those numbers, unless your retailer ordered embarrassingly low on the qualifying title. (Okay, I suppose Secret Avengers #1 might have a chance of making 115% of AvX vs 6 numbers, but that's about it...)
