I was one of about 4 non-creator audience members, and the show was a bit strange. Billy West felt very out of place, struggling with such a small number of people in such a big, empty room. There seemed to be some huge errors in the slideshow of the nominees, from mispelling Greg Rucka as 'Gregg Rucker' to presenting what looked like Jay Anacleto's art for Marvels: Eye of The Camera for Alex Ross's nomination. And, thanks to the unique way that the Eagles are voted for, Bryan Lee O'Malley was nominated for Favourite Newcomer Writer, Favourite Newcomer Artist, and Roll of Honour all in the same ceremony.

I wish the Eagles would get their act together a little more with publicising the ceremony. That room really needed to be at least half full, yet information about tickets was so ridiculously vague/limited/non-existent that it wasn't until about 40 minutes before the ceremony that I knew for sure that I could attend, even though it was one of my objectives for the day.

Still, it was great to see some projects, like Axe Cop, get the support of the community, Frank Quitely and Frazer Irving accepting awards for their great collaborations with Grant Morrison, and Dave Gibbons get the Roll of Honour award.

So, for future reference, how did you get in?

    -Dutch_Master-, welcome to the forum!
We do have amazing beer in England, but it just so happens that those people up there drinking Budweiser are not drinking beer.

I was at the Paul Cornell panel at Phoenix Comicon, minutes after he found out he won for best newcomer. "After 21 years in the business, I win the best newcomer award," was his response.

His panel was an abslolute joy.

I was in the expo, and when they played the announcement to throw all the punters out, they had a disclaimer saying you could stay if you were going to attend the Eagles.

As a side-note, at the October awards, a reliable source, a nominee for the best comic-related website, had informed me that entry to the Eagles was going to set me back fifty quid. I guess that rumour came with a red light!

I would like to see the Eagles vetting some of those nominations, as Paul Cornell and Bryan O'Malley being up for Favourite Newcomer Writer is just silly. It also means the award doesn't work to help boost the profile of new talent coming into the industry.

Thanks for that - worth knowing as I'm sure a lot of fans would be happy to go and it'd help fill up some seats - that is one empty looking room.

American beer is like making love in a canoe; it's fucking close to water.

It's okay that I can say that; I'm American.

    Hehe.
Just so, but your lager has some promise.

    Microbreweries, blahblahblah.
We're well looked after for decent american lagers in NYC.
Just wished there was more *proper* beer ... no indictment, or incitement, just disappointment.
