Default Kentucky school canceling basketball season because team too good?

100-2 middle school hoops blowout may have repercussions - Prep Rally - High School*Blog - Yahoo! Sports

Basically, this Junior High school in Kentucky is considering cancelling their basketball season because they consider their team's 100-2 victory to be unsportsmanlike.

Honestly, I don't know what kind of pussy world we live in where being better gets you punished. They probably should have never played against such a lesser team in the first place, and they certainly shouldn't have finished the game when the score was 70-0 at halftime. But why would you punish the kids for being better than the other kids when no adults stopped in and ended it?

Plus the accusation of being unsportsmanlike is ridiculous. They sat their starters after the first two minutes, and stopped playing all defense after the second half, and the other team was so horrible they still only scored once. If they insisted on finishing the game, what should the good team have done? Stand there with hands behind their back? Give the bad team the ball over and over and over again?

Presumably they'll play better competition in the future, so as long as they're out there they should get in some game time practice, even if it is against a bunch of losers.

Yeah, I agree it does sounds like the coach was taking steps throughout to try to mitigate the situation.

Hard to believe a community in Kentucky would allow its school board to cancel the season on one of the nation's best 8th grade basketball teams. Something tells me that decision would not stand for very long.

Maybe they should start playing with one hand tied behind their backs.

What they don't tell you is that because it is Kentucky, the entire 8th grade team was made up of 27 year olds.

(Cheap shot at the more southern states being stupid? Yup.)

People wonder why Americans are last in everything now, we teach our kids if you play fair, let the competition back in it. In the business world 10 years from now, those kids on the losing team learned a valuable lesson, where the winning team might just think to "play fair." and get their asses kicked in the real world.
