Default The 10 Most Disliked People in Sports

Forbes.com recently did an online survey ranking the top ten most disliked athletes. Here's the article (which links to a slideshow of the list): http://www.forbes.com/2009/07/28/the...-disliked.html

    The list is as follows:
    1) Michael Vick (NFL)
    2) Manny Ramirez (MLB)
    3) Alex Rodriguez (MLB)
    4) Terrell Owens (NFL)
    5) Kobe Bryant (NBA)
    6) Allen Iverson (NBA)
    7) Isaiah Thomas (Former NBA player and coach)
    8) Stephon Marbury (NBA)
    9) Nick Saban (Coach of Alabama)
    10) John McEnroe (former tennis player)

I was surprised by some of the results, namely that Vick took the top spot (probably the result of timliness than anything). Also, surprising is McEnroe seeing that he hasn't played a match in like 20 years. That's some serious hate for the tennis pro.

I have to point out the omissions of names like OJ Simpson, Bill Belichick (New England Patriots coach), or Kevin Garnett (hate, hate, hate him).

    Thoughts on the list?

No doubt timeliness has something to do with it, although that being said I'm surprised someone like "Pacman" Jones didn't show up. Maybe because he's actually a hero to some of the more thuggy folks.

If it were all time, I'd have to throw Danny Ainge in the mix for me. I hated that guy back in the day. Whiny little baby...

Danny Ainge as a GM for the Bahstan Celtics grinds my gears. The guy gets Kevin Garnett gift wrapped to him by an idiot GM in Minnesota (lookin' at you McHale) and suddenly he's a genius executive. Same goes for the dingleberries running the Memphis organization and the Pau Gasol nonsense.

They wouldn't make the list in a top 10, or heck even 20, but that backstage thievery definitely puts these GMs on my personal dislike list. (Along with anybody currently wearing Michigan Wolverine blue)

Being a Knick fan I have to tell you, Isiah deserves his place on that list, Marbury does not. I am not quite sure why he is on there, as he was put in a bad position by Isiah and then lied to by the new GM and coach (who held a grudge from Marbury's Phoenix days but denied it).

JJ I totally agree that it was BS that McHale gave his buddy an all star player for nothing.

Isn't it about time to move on with Michael Vick? Leonard Little killed a person and nobody gives him this much heat. These guys are entertainers===that's it.

A purely American list. And pretty limited in regards to the sports. Where is the Formular 1 hate? The soccer hate? Are there no hate-worthy French athletes? What about all those doped-up bycycle racers who actually managed to destroy that sport (those scandals being responsible for European TV stations to drop all reporting of bicycle races)?

An extremely limited poll, in many many ways.

There's Formula 1 hate? By all means share Jens. If it's an American list, give it some international flavor. Do tell!

(I also agree on the biking remark, the sport is more damaged than baseball)

    international flavour you ask?

delete all names from that list and that's a good start. Not one of those would make a top 100 list in this side of the atlantic. Well ... maybe Kobe would, but that's pretty much it.

I think Bryant and McEnrone are the only ones on the list who are even known outside the US.
