Default Help Two Geeks Get It On At San Diego

Carl Jansson and Molly Isaac. The love that dare not speak its name. Long distance online, never-met-face-to-face love.

Carl is coming to San Diego Comic Con. And Molly really wants to. But Molly is in Idaho. And because, as she puts it, she is a "photographer, comic book fiend, postcard addict, graphic designer, cosplayer, video game store employee, all around uber geek" she is broke.

They need a further $500 to get together. And yes, for that money Carl could pay for all sorts of companionship in San Diego, but it's just not the same is it?

The donation deadline is today, Monday, July 24th. I'm about to donate $50. I don't know what that qualifies me for a button, a wristband, a kiss on the cheek (from Carl obviously) or just the satisfaction of being in the service of true love. Of course, if they don't get it together, I think I'll be due a refund. No pressure, Carl and Molly.

Follow the drama here and make your donation here. Seriously, another 45 of you donating $10 each and they've reached home base. As it were.

...Hey Rich! I need a new fake leg. Can I be the subject of the next fund raiser?

    Default I don't get it...

Why doesn't he just take his con money and take a plane to Idaho? If they have such a love that they need to be together and are asking random people over the internet for money.
Not like there won't be another con next year.

Because I need to be the fundraising object for next year's SDCC: "donate money so that Jens can go to SDCC*, meet editors and jumpstart his career."

*Bristol would also do, or that new London Expo, or New York...

    touching, but...

i refuse to send money to a guy who claims to be in love with a girl who lives far and can't meet her, but has enough to go spend 4 days surrounded by sweating guys.

also, i need basic groceries and a haircut. maybe i'll start a fundraiser.

That's basically it, yes. Apparently, he doesn't love her enough to travel to Idaho instead of SDCC.

My wife and I met online. After about half a year of e-mails, we arranged to meet in Santo Domingo. A few months after that, I went to her in Tokyo, and she came here.

The Santo Domingo meet-up will have the 10th anniversary in late November.

Thing is, if it's love, then you go to Idaho instead of San Diego. And you don't even need to think about it.

    Gronk?

    So much for fact checking...

Other than that, seriously, get your ass out to Idaho mate.

    Cheers

    Default To you naysayers...

Actually, once my comic shop closed (due to the struggling economy and other factors) in May (Comic Universe in Fountain Valley, CA) I was out of work. I got free retailer passes to Con though. Everything was pre-planned, but life got in the way and money is tight for both of us. If you don't want to donate that's totally cool, and understandable, but there's no need to be negative about it. I live 45 minutes away from San Diego, so it seemed like the place to meet, until finances got tight. As it is, I only have $150 of my own money to spend on food and whatnot. I HAVE to be at Comic-Con because I have signings and such. Donate, or don't. Either way it's all cool.

    - Carl

P.S. Thanks for picking up on this Rich. I just found out about the extent of the rallying. I am so touched right now. I really appreciate this. And so does Molly.
