Default Jim Muir To Write For CLiNT Magazine

Jim Muir, better known as The Reverend O'Badiah Steppenwolf on the Scottish comedy circuit, is another comedian joining Jonathan Ross, Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr writing for Mark Millar's CLiNT Magazine.

On a Millarworld post, Mark referenced "Frankie and The Reverend are both buds of mine, both writing for my Clint mag". Boyle and Muir go back a fair few years often performing together.

Last year, Jim found himself banned from performing at Stirling University after allegedly "jeering a transvestite in the audience of a recent gig." Although the victim in question was quoted as saying "I really didn?t mind that much but I suppose he went a bit far. When every second joke was about me it was a bit far. But he's a comic, he's trying to get people to laugh and it's an opportunity. I was more offended by the Islamic jokes to be honest."

    Sounds perfect for CLiNT Magazine!

It's reprinting work which already has distribution deals with other publishers in North America (Turf and Kick Ass 2).

Rich, it's like telling us that "John Smith" is writing for CLiNT--it doesn't make us want it even more, or even less, than not telling us. I'd be less inclined to criticize if your headline said "Scottish Comedian Jim Muir to Write For CLiNT Magazine." I mean, even though I never heard of Tanya Tate before, putting in your headline the fact that she was associated with porn gave me some context to go on.

    I'm just being crabby today.

As far as this meriting a headline:
it's confirmation of someone contributing to a comic, whatever their 'known' pedigree and ouvre; which seems to be a fairly normal subject for these parts. Seems like it's valid news to me. No offense intended if you disagree.

As far as the actual content:
from a position of ignorance regarding this guy, this feels like it's tipping the balance beyond understandable choices of contributor, now.
It made perfect sense to choose people from an environment with it's own fanbase and it's own method of publicity to bring to the world of comics, as long as that contributor had a quantifiable, reasonable excuse for inclusion.
Ross is now quantifiable in his talent, though was already so in his knowledge of the genre. Carr and Boyle's fandom might have been lesser known, but it is existant; which goes some way towards investing a little belief in that they may have enough talent to write a story. Whether I actually believe that fandom alone qualifies you to write a story, I'm unsure, but the trade-off of what they can bring as promotion alone affords them the opportunity for them to be given a chance, I'd say.
    This guy?
Seems odd. No huge fanbase (in that he's got a fairly insignificant fanbase in as much as increasing numbers of sales to something already linked to three 'superstars' of comedy). No 'known' efforts to make comics. No illustration of his knowledge of comics.
All feeling more like a love-in than a professional endeavour with this now.
If I was advising from a business point-of-view: it's time to start bringing in some people with published work, or newcomers that have published (online portfolio or traditional) a history of attempting something that merits them creating comic work.
    Just my opinion.
