Post Weekly Reviews - 22 Feb 2012 (With Previews)

    Hi.

    This week's reviews thread.
The previews section is taken from Diamond's page, here:

    might be here

    Favourite Images:

Crikey, I didn't think that Rogue was that well endowed.
    Er, interesting.

    Anyway.

Fantastically easy week for me, only 2 books, and all Marvel:
    1. AVENGERS ACADEMY #26
    2. FANTASTIC FOUR #603

Looks like I might actually get some shit done next week.

    No chat this week.
That said, there's a 20% sale of Icon comics over at Comixology.
Not exactly great, to be honest, as they're still too expensive.
    Basically $1.50, instead of whatever.

    Blahblah

    ONWARD!

This is a thread to post some quick one paragraph
    reviews of the week's releases.

We have the reviews section to come back some time in the
future, this is more informal and just to get a paragraph of your
thoughts on the week's releases, and to discuss each other's opinions
thereafter, if one feels the need.

    Here's the format:
Title - Rating Out Of 5

    One paragraph review goes here.

Title - Rating Out Of 5
    One paragraph review goes here.
Post as much or as little as you like, I'll
create a new thread each week.

I appear to have travelled forward in time this week, as my copy of 20th Century Boys volume 19 arrived already...
When in doubt, "Try not to be a dick" is usually a good place to start.

Question: is there any way to default subscribe to the reviews threads?

I realise I can subscribe manually or by blathering but, you know, it's computers n shit: all effort should be removed so that my brain can continue to shrivel.

You can subscribe to the forum as a whole, but that's not particularly good (in that the sub-list only tells you there's new stuff in the forum, not what it is) or you can add the RSS feed into your feedreader of choice.

    this works:
    http://www.bleedingcool.com/forums/s...searchid=31538
It's a search on all posts in the reviews thread, displayed as posts, with the latest at the top.
I set it to everything in the 'last month' ... Whatever that may be at the time

    Fantastic Four #603 - 4 (out of 5)

F4 continues to impress me, and maintains being the #1 book (out of 4) that i still buy from marvel. The storyline keeps moving along, although it does seem to be slowing down a bit, when compared to the flow of some issues. im still damn pleased with Hickman's writing and the art is quite nice.

    X-men: Legacy #262- 3.5 (out of 5)

While i intended to drop this title, this arc makes me feel a bit better about not doing so. plenty of action and the dialog aint too shabby either, considering how logan talks like he's making sense. even when he's being stupid and prideful.
downside: no warning of the impeding Xover (Xlegacy VS. NewX)

    Fantastic Four #603 - 4/5

Emotional and endearing at the same time. Bently's son providing a great little moment, and the picking off of characters that feels tremendously ominous given how well Hickman has managed to bring us to tragic events in the past. The dread and foreboding are here, too. Kitson and Mounts bring this to us with fantastic scale. Without a single double-page splash we get one of the biggest moments in comics in recent times (when you step back to consider it, that is), which you may not have been expecting if the timey-wimey nature of this comic book (and its sister/brother/relatives[/celestial] FF and S.H.I.E.L.D.) are to be believed. But it's brought with aplomb, too, and I feel that with Franklin and the energy of the Celestials around, that it won't stay that way for long ... and that's a good thing. Hickman's run will be remembered for a very long time, I feel, and this part of the story will be the flag bearer for that march in to the future. As always, buy.

absolutely MMM, i never thought i would be this happy with a 'family' book (with children). instead i find myself looking forward to what the kids will do next and how the family unit supports the story. considering the debates about liberal VS. conservative in comics, this is the series where the two meet and make a great comic. reading this is totally out of character for me and what i usually enjoy, but i find myself liking it more then i would expect. that a pretty strong endorsement, i think.
oh, and its only $3 and ties to just ONE other book (FF,also $3) but contains a massive cosmic storyline w/o screwing the reader into reading a bunch of 1shots, minis and other books! this is the OASIS in which to take refuge, while marvel goes money crazy.

Should also note that neither title rely on you reading the other.
But it's beautiful if you do.
