Default Bryan Singer Says He Hasn\'t Finalised The Mutant Line-Up For Days Of Future Past

Though the broad strokes must be in place for the pre-production work to be going ahead, Bryan Singer keeps suggesting that the screenplay for his upcomingX-Men movie Days of Future Past has yet to be locked down, even to the extent that he can't confirm the line-up of featured mutants.

For example, Singer has told MTV that Storm might be back. Or perhaps she won't:
I can't say. I don't know yet. And it's not necessarily a deal making aspect at all. I want to make sure it'll make sense. But I love working with her.
Meanwhile, he toldThe Huffington Post more or less the same thing about Alan Cumming and Nightcrawler:
I don't know. We'll see. You know ... we'll see... sometimes you don't want to say "yes" or "no" to something that may not be a "yes" or a "no," or anything. I haven't decided yet, a few things. I'm still, you know... there are certain aspects of the script that I'm still toying with.
I'd certainly prefer to see Cumming back than Berry, but I don't care about seeing Storm or Nightcrawler so much as wanting a story that will play out in a satisfying way.

And that's where another one of Singer's comments is the most interesting to me:
The story is designed and catered to the combined cast. It's not just throwing in people to occupy the screen, occupy the billboards. The story Days of Future Past, and our version of Days of Future Pastis geared very much toward the mass cast and all their relationships and all their foibles and their achievements.
That's right, that's what we want to hear. Makes me sceptical about the Berry and Cumming comments as a side-effect, but that's okay. If they're not coming back because they're not needed, then fine.

I also understand how Singer has to be political - there's no way of knowing what kind of back and forth he's going through with the studio, and the studio with actors.

I guess the question that would cut to the heart of this would be asking if the current draft of the script features Storm or Nightcrawler, but slapping Singer with that might really be putting him on the spot.

Next up for Bryan Singer is Jack the Giant Slayer, with Days of Future Pastset to shoot this spring and summer.

Will people still care about this new X-Men movie after they see how boring Jack the Giant-Slayer is?

It depends: Will seeing JtGS somehow retroactively make X2 a worse movie?

    Default My recommendations...

Logan, Rogue, Storm*, Beast, Iceman, Pyro**, Havok, Kitty, Colossus, Rachel, Franklin***

It seems like a lot, but some characters would be relegated to the background (esp. Storm, Colossus, Havok, Rachel & Franklin).

*Any excuse for a mohawk Storm is a good excuse, I say. (Recast plz, no Halle Berry, thx)
**It can't just be a team of good guys - bad scenarios make for even worse bedfellows, so we need a villain in the mix. Plus there's a nice bit of history with that particular character in the movies.
***I think they should include Franklin Richards, but just call him 'Franklin' so 20th Century Fox can't really do anything about it.

Why would they want to do anything about it? Fox does both the FF and X-Men films.

Whoops, I got my franchises mixed up.
Okay, then Franklin gets a last name! #SocialProgressforMutants

I definitely would welcome both Storm and Nightcrawler back onto the screen, but more importantly every time Singer talks about the movie I get giddy. There's no other director I want working on this series. First Class was a very good, fun film, but Singer nails the gravitas I enjoy when this comic is at its best.

It's easy enough to do. But yeah, it would be cool if Franklin was there...although, do we know if the next FF film is set to take place in the 60s or 70s. Because if it's not, then I guess that doesn't really work.

If the rebooted FF franchise could be a mostly-literal adaptation of the 1961 origin story with the space race, pinko Commies and Mad Men-esque background sets, that would be so frakkin' awesome.
(Let's face it - there's not going to be a 'shared' universe between 20th Century Fox & Marvel/Disney, so might as well go for the best/most attractive setting.)
