Default The Amazing Spider-Man Full Trailer Is Here

Pretty much as premiered last night at Sony's The Untold Story special events, here's the first full trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man. This time there's Lizard, there's more back story and there's a good sense of the "new" Peter Parker.

I say "pretty much" because those of usat the events got to see it in deep, rich, clear 3D. And it was beautiful... not that it looks too shabby in 2D either. Take a bow, cinematographer John Schwartzman. You've outdone yourself.

This sort-of untold story reaches US cinemas on July 3rd. Lots more Spider-Man stuff coming up at Bleeding Cool later today, so keep an eye on us...

Other than Spider-Man 2, I wasn't a fan of Raimi's films so I'm not all torn up that Sony decided to reboot the series only a few years after the last film (which I've still not managed to completely watch).

I think this looks okay. The tone is hard to get from the trailer as there are some Spidey oneliners, but lots of semi-Twilight moping as well. It still doesn't look completely like what I want from a Spider-Man movie, but I'd oddly looking more forward to this than The Avengers (the trailer doesn't nothing for me - if it wasn't for the effects it'd look like a TV movie).

Well, that was a lot more impressive than the shitty teaser we had before. The whole thing feels a lot more...physical than the Raimi movies. Looks like there might be some interesting applications of his powers in there (like the web in the sewer, presumably to detect movement at a distance), and pleasingly, he seems more accurately wisecracking than Maguire's Spidey did.

Not sure about that "untold story" line, though. Is there a person on the planet who doesn't know Spidey's origin? Did we really see a shot at the end there where he ends up clinging to the edge of a roof by his fingertips? The guy who could happily stroll down the side of that skyscraper if he wanted? I notice they appear to be continuing the Raimi tradition of having him unmasked every five minutes, too.

Perhaps surprisingly, it was only a wig for a couple of days reshoots, if that.

Since all we have to go on at the moment is the trailer, I can only judge the potential movie against the trailers for the other Spider-Man movies. The SM3 trailer broke my heart and the movie definitely followed suit. This one doesn't quite have me as agog as the trailer for SM2, but I feel like the source material is being honored even more than it was when I first saw the trailer for SM1. An actor who actually LOOKS like Peter Parker! Non-organic web fluid! Gwen Stacey AND her father! Curt freakin' Connors! THE LIZARD at last! I'm still not a fan of this Spider-Man's costume, but big deal when it seems like they got so much ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Go Marvel! Go Sony! GO SPIDEY!

I'd rather see a slightly goofy costume than have the CGI Spider-Man make me feel like I'm watching a video game. Skipped the last movie but I will see this one now!

Looks pretty good, though I hope they don't spend too long on the origin unless it's radically different.

    And Dennis Leary: fun.

And Rhys Ifans channeling David Warner: splendid!
