Default Blade Runner Follow Up Producer Rubbishes Harrison Ford Rumours, Gives Accurate Update Instead

Andrew Kosove of Alcon Entertainment, producers of the new Blade Runner movie, has outright denied the recent rumours of Harrison Ford's involvement. Previously, we heard, that the actor was in some kind of early negotiations regarding a role, but Kosove has crushed that entirely.

    He was speaking to Deadline:
It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in Blade Runner.

    Seems pretty clear.

Kosove then gives a pretty straight up account of the project's current status:
To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we?re going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment.

By the sound of things, Ridley and the producers are trying to unlock the film's essential plot before bringing in a screenwriter. Not the usual course of events, really - especially not on a Ridley Scott film.

Of course, there's a tiny vestigial chance that they'll surprise themselves and cook up a plotline that will require the return of Ford, but I can't imagine they'd be so stupid. What they're doing is to trying to write around him, to formulate a new storyline that grows logically out of the Blade Runner world but doesn't hang on Deckard.

I'll be fascinated to see what they come up with.

Sounds like the project is still early in its development. Don't expect it to be Scott's follow up to Prometheus.

Sounds more like a realistic assessment.

I don't necessarily take it that they are trying to write around him. Just pretty much what he said- right now they are trying to work on the story, casting is far down the road.

Now of course they could develop a story that doesn't require Ford or that can work either way. That would probably be the best and cover both angles.
