Default Harrison Ford To Return In Ridley Scott's Blade Runner Follow-Up?

Ridley Scott seems to be rather prone to a kind of self-nostalgia, perhaps a sort of homesickness for his own fantasy worlds.

Having journeyed back to the Alien universe for this year's Prometheus, he's also busy planning for a new trip into his other future with a Blade Runner follow-up.

And what's more, a new rumour has it that Harrison Ford is negotiating to come back for this new picture. Must have taken some big digging to find a hole for these monster hatchets.

It's pretty much just hearsay at the moment, and it cuts against everything else we've heard about the project, but Twitch are staking at least a portion of their credibility on the story.

The site would seem to have a source near the production. A few months back they reported that Contagion and The Informant! screenwriter Scott Z. Burns was Big Ridley's pick for script duties, though this was denied by Burns' reps and, not long afterwards Scott said:
I think I?m close to finding a writer that might be able to help me deliver. We?re quite a long way in, actually.

But it's another comment from the same interview that seems the most salient right now:
[It's] liable to be a sequel? not with the past cast, of course.

So we'll have to wait and see how this pans out, but Scott seems to have undermined all of Twitch's stories. What we don't know is his motivation - and there is always the chance that he's just looking to spread misinformation, keep secrets, bury the big surprises.

He is the man who keeps insisting that Prometheus isn't an Alien prequel after-all.

Big holes indeed, considering that Ford usually won't even talk about Blade Runner.

I hope they get Vangelis for the soundtrack again, that made the movie imo. The stunning visuals were awesome, it's going to be near impossible to match or even come close to the original.

Unless I am misremembering part of the fall out was that Ford thought Decker was human whilst Scott's D.Cut suggested he was a replicant.

Ford is now 30 odd years older than he was in Blade Runner.

If Scott asks him back (as the same character with no cg de-aging obviously)then Decker can't have been a replicant.

Instantly argument is over and both can cash in on nostalgia...

5 years after which Scott can recut it and rerelease 5 versions 2 of which will have a de-aged ford and the controversy can roll on whilst the cash rolls in.

Why assume Replicants can't age? They are biological and they don't inherently have to have the built-in 4-year life span.

They may not improve on the visual world-building of the original but they can improve on the narrative.

Ugh. A pointlessly aged Replicant? Or he's not a Replicant?

Man, this is just a terrible idea.

Conversely, Ford could play the human that the Dekker replicant was based on.

I think it's safe to guarantee that won't happen. They'll pull a "Tron" and get Daft Punk to do something about 1/10th as creative as the original.
