Default The Amazing Spider-Man Is Tidied Up A Little By An Official Blurb

Here's an orderly and dependable plot blurb for The Amazing Spider-Man, as issued by Sony and piling up across the net (and in my inbox) like wildfire right now.

There may not be any bombshells in here, but the strands come together pretty clearly. You know - like a web.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field).

Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets.

As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

I think we can pretty sure about how they're planning to build a multi-film plot arc now. I'm expecting this installment to end with another clue for Peter to chase as he tries to find out what happened to his parents.

What's more, I'll bet you dollars to donuts now that they'll be revealed as spies somewhere in the third film. Assuming we get to a third film. Which I do.

...Sounds like to me they're incorporating the plot from ASM Annual #5, where Peter faced off with the Red Skull and found out his parents were killed because they were double agents for the US government trying to help nail the Skull since Captain America hadn't thawed out yet.

Peter's parents being spies is really one of the dumbest things they've ever done with the character. It's just so goofy.

It'll be more like Ultimate Spider-man, where Peter's father is a scientist. His parents died a couple of ways in the Ultimate U. (Eddie Brock's father had them killed/Hulk killed them), but I think Norman Osborn will ultimately have a hand in their death, with Conners being involved.

Osborne, yes, Connors no. He'll be cured of the lizard and become Pete's go-to science guy and mole within Oscorp.

You never know they may end up killing off all the villains like before. Except for sandman of course who was just a simple misunderstood deadbeat dad with sand powers he gets to blow away in to the wind.

If they get to a second movie I hope they flash forward several years so we don't have a 32 year-old actor playing a 19 year-old.

Yeah, I think the Ultimate Universe version would probably be slightly more palatable than the goofier regular-MU story.
