Default Joss Whedon To Roll Cameras On SHIELD Pilot In January

Getting things moving along nicely, production on the SHIELD TV show will kick off in January when Joss Whedon steps on set to direct the pilot. He was not, until today, confirmed to direct - it was always down to his pending schedule, at least publicly.

Now, though, Variety's Marc Graser has put him right in the canvas seat.

We only have two cast names known above board so far, and that's Ming-Na Wen as Agent May and Clark Gregg returning, somehow, as Agent Coulson. Rumours say that he's the centre of the show, but even if we suppose that's true, we still don't know how or why. It's not safe to just assume the show will be set post-Avengers movie, for example.

The pilot's script was written by Whedon, his brother Jed and Jed's wife Maurissa Tancharoen.

I thought movieverse SHIELD stood for "Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division." Is this an alternate reality, ala Ultimate Spider-Man?

As everyone knows, it's actually SuperHero Intimidation, Elimination, and Licensing Division.

I thought it stood for Smashy, Hammer-boy, Iron-pants, 'Er and 'im, Luddite, and Dude from "Pulp Fiction".
