Default The Tears Of A Spider-Man - And The Freak Out Of A Spider-Boy

Edel Rodriguez's art from The Village Voice, illustrating an article on Amazing Spider-Man #700 and an interview with Dan Slott.
When I was a kid, I liked the Spider-Man cartoons, but the thing that got me into comics was Spider-Man coming to my town to a 7-Eleven to sign comics. I was eight, and I brought my first comics for him to sign. I got there early because I wanted to see him swing him in. This was Spielbergian California, like E.T. or Poltergeist, and after a while I started freaking out because I realized there were no tall buildings for him to swing on.
I thought both were worth sharing.

Nice Interview. It will be interesting about what people here will be more angry?
The recent Rich-created Big bang theory scandal or Slott pissing on comic-fans in general and especially on Spidey-fans?

What is is about Marvel, that so many people working for them, seem to enjoy nothing more than mocking their readers and making fun of them?
Wacker, Breevort, Slott to name but three.

Well, I guess you can already tell which of the two I find more annoying, especially when reading that Slott seems to intentionally piss off the people who can't get over OMD/BND and enjoy it.

    The art looks nice.
Proud member of the "Commitee for reinstating Tabitha "Boom Boom" Smith into the New Mutants team, where she belongs. Or let her join her X-Force Buddies in X-Factor, seriously folks, she's fun and she was member of Nextwave."
Or short: CRTBBSINMtwbOljXFBXFsff and she was a member of Nextwave.
Sorry, this last part can't be shortened.
CRTBBSINMtwbOljXFBXFsff does also mean "Aldebaraanic slime slug" in the Betelgeuse system.

Hang on, people think Rich invented that? I saw several sites saying the exact same thing at least 24 hours before Rich posted anything. In fact, the reason I didn't realise people were claiming Rich had created it was that I was already sick of reading about it and didn't bother going into the comments on any of the BC stories about it...

I don't understand most of that, but the good thing about comics is that even if you hate most of what's coming out there's still enough material that there'll be something worth reading. And even if there isn't there's plenty of older material you might prefer getting reprinted.

I've been reading comics for about twenty years and have been a Wednesday-pull file reader for eight, and the healthiest thing I ever did was a few months ago when I stopped reading books I was buying purely out of habit (Supergirl, Blue Beetle, Justice League, Venom, et al) and started checking out stuff that seemed more appealing (Batman Incorporated, Wolverine and the X-Men, Daredevil, Adventure Time, et al). You don't like the current regime at Marvel, send them a message with your wallet. Or not. Whichever works for you, I suppose.

    Have a good day.

I've been sending them a message with my wallet for five years now (almost exactly, January 2008) and nothing has changed. Maybe I need to buy a new wallet with more votes?

I've been reading comics weekly by the score for thirty years and I don't ever understand why anyone lets any of this bother them. Storylines come and go and it's all in the execution. Not the hype, not the PR, not even in the concept. (For example, I have no interest in yet another X-Men time-travel story with alternate-timeline versions of characters, and yet, I find myself really enjoying All New X-Men, in spite of disliking the basic premise.)

Nor have I ever felt Slott or Wacker have ever said anything to mock or insult me. I've only ever seen them mock people who are acting crazy, and only for those crazy acts. Obsession, knee-jerk reactionism, close-mindedness -- I've seen them mock these things, and these things are deserving of mockery.
