    Default Marvel Cancels X-Men

To be fair, there were suddenly a lot of X-Men-titled books. With Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine & The X-Men, All New X-Men, Ultimate X-Men, X-Men Legacy, Astonishing X-Men, X-Treme X-Men and X-Men.

That last, adjectiveless version has now been cancelled by Marvel. It began as a third central X-Men title to exploit the media's taste for vampires by pitting the X-Men against a vampire foe, but this failed to catch on as intended and it has been a little rudderless since.

    Here's the final solicitation.

Would anyone actually follow Angel in his current mental state?

Marvel, you know you have a variant addiction when you're putting them on the final issue of canceled books. Seriously, we're your friends and we're worried about you. It's time to get some help.

When exactly is that cover supposed to be? What are they looking up? How can Xorn and Magneto possibly be in the same picture?

Ohhhhh, wait, that's probably Joseph in the Mag's armor.

    Not bitter. Honest.

guessing its just a cover showing all the major x-men, since Dazzler is in her mojoverse outfit, warren's in the archangel look, Cyclops/Rogue/Gambit are in the jim lee outfits, storm is in the 80s mohawk... its not supposed to be any period.

"It has been a little rudderless since." And by "since", we mean "always."

To be fair, adjectiveless X-Men did have an objective to be the X-Men team-up book where they could crossover with various other corners of the Marvel Universe. Which is not a bad idea.

Then A+X launched. Which is basically the same idea, with the added bonus of also being an Avengers team-up book. And it sold through much better than X-Men ever did as a result. Now if you want to talk about an rudderless X-book, try to explain to me why Astonishing X-Men is still being published.
