I need you to be a little patient with me. I know very little about American sport. But I'm going to give this a go.

Recently, Bleeding Cool ran an article on how the Brooklyn Nets basketball team were getting a superhero comic created for them by Marvel, Brookly Knight, that Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso was involved in, hence the all star creative team of Jason Aaron and Mike Deodato Jr.

But when you favour one side in a sport, especially commercially, the opposition may not take kindly to it.

Which may be why the ads for bitter rival team New York Knicks, make a reference to the accident-prone Spider-Man Broadway show, Turn Off The Dark.

Brookly Knight appearing on a wire and in a harness in the Brooklyn Nets' opening game of the season, may also be a factor here...

Giving the timing that these ran and developed, these are more pokes on what is in direct competition with the Knicks downtown.

This is quite a reach.

This was part of a series of ads that were equally snarky. And that were roundly criticized. The ad campaign is being ended.

I don't think anyone at MSG/Knicks/Cablevision had a clue about the Brooklyn Knight when they commissioned these ads. They were just being snarky.

Oh come on. There was a plausible deniability, they could have been making a dated joke about the Spider-Man musical, not the Nets!
