    Default Anyone here program?

Is anyone here, besides me, a programmer...web developer, scripter, hacker, etc. I've often be surprised how, despite the archetype of comic geeks being uberhackers, there are very few programmers on comic forums. So, I'm just wondering if anyone here is a member of the IT community as well as the comics community.

EDIT: that title should say programmer. I cannot type worth a crap, hence why all my posts get edited.

I've noticed this as well. There are a handful on Warren's Whitechapel board, but not many.

I dig in and figure out what I need to. I suppose I'd call myself a hobbyist in this area.

Yes, but with a stong dinosaur accent.

Thirty years (come October) in IBM mainframes.

Preferred languages REXX or NetRexx, but also Assembler, COBOL, PL/1, Gener/OL, Easitrieve +, Selcopy, JCL and SQL.

On machines that weigh less than a ton and don't need a three phase power supply, I can just about manage Java and HTML for basic website set-up, design and support. On a good day. With a stack of manuals yay high...

    Cheers.

My impression is, there are many in the IT field who started exactly that way. I got my first job, which evolved into my current job, because I knew how to copy files on a Unix system, pretty much everything has come by way of being able to fill a need.

(Without guile or irony) I bow before you, the master. I've had to dabble with an IBM minicomputer where I work (mostly SQL through ODBC), but anyone who can wrangle such a beast, or its larger kin, with the likes of JCL, COBOL, or Assembly...well, it makes me feel a little shameful calling myself a programmer. That's heavy metal, man.

...Used to not be that way. Back when rec.arts.comics was at its peak, about 75% of those who were active posters - read: at least one post per day - were IT professionals of some sort. Nowadays, it varies from forum to forum.

"I was there at the dawn of the Third Age..."

Back then it was the IT Crowd who knew about BBS and DARPANet who happened to create/find Comic/SF watering holes. These days, they let anybody in here...

    Cheers.
