Default The Walking Dead Gets A Price Change

Recently, The Walking Dead Volume 1 went out of print, which led to a mini-run on the trade paperback, with people paying slightly more for it.

Turns out that's going to be a permanent situation. Not the out-of-printness, but the pricing.

Since publication, the book has been priced at $9.99, to encourage people to try it out, with the subsequent volumes costing more. But it seems that the encouragement isn't necessary any more.

With the sccess of the TV show, it seems people would be more than happy to pay more. And so they will be. The new printing will be $14.99.

So if you did want to get into The Walking Dead trade paperbacks and were one of the few who had put it off, now would be the time, if you can find a copy at your store or online (the same price, Amazon doesn't discount this volume at all, they know how much people want it)

My local Target had it for $7.99. They also had volume 17 (is that the latest?) for 20% off, too.

Amazon doesn't generally discount books under $14.99, it's nothing to do with knowing how much people want it. However, the new $14.99 price will likely be discounted so it'll only be $11 or so.

I think new fans would be better served to download the first issue or two to see if they like the series, then if they do just buy the compendium. Six issues of material don't get you very far in this series. Case in point, I just read the 8th hardcover that reprinted issues 84-95 or something like that and I'll be damned if fuck all nothing happened in those issues. By the end of hc book 8 it was pretty clear that they were gearing up for some big stuff, but the book itself was just a bunch of people talking.

Or you could buy it for $5.99 at InStock Trades who are the same people as DCBS. Shipping is a flat $4 an order or free if you spend over $50. Which means if you just buy that one book you're paying coverprice. All other collections are also 40% off.

Amazon doesn't usually discount books that are under $10, instead making the eligible for their "4-for-3" deal, where the cheapest of four books is free, which is a maximum discount of 25% if you can find four identically priced books you want. Has the odd effect that the first WALKING DEAD book (and other books doing the "cheap entry level first volume") is often more expensive than the some of the others at Amazon, despite being $5 cheaper on the cover price. This change might actually make the book cheaper for most people on Amazon than it is now, and certainly less complicated, getting a discount without having to order three other eligible books.
