Default Watch: All Of The Nominees For The Best Animated Short Film Oscar

All of the films in contention for the Best Animated Short Film at this year's Academy Awards are now online.

I rather like Head Over Heels. It's got echoes of Up, I suppose, and also Upside Down, and it looks a bit like $9.99, but it's distinct from them all and, ultimately, worth its ten minute runtime.

Some of the animation in Adam and Dog is lovely, the sound design does some heavy lifting, the backgrounds are remarkable - especially when they're moving in 3D - and despite some wobbles in the pacing and clarity of storytelling, it's a charmer.

You'll have seen a credit there for Glen Keane, who also helped out with Paperman. I don't know that I need to say more about this one. Surely you've seen it by now, right?

Fresh Guacamole by Pes might put you off your dinner, or maybe I just need to get a grip on my gag reflex.

That's a sequel, of sorts, to Western Spaghetti. This isn't Oscar nominated but I want to include it, for context.

Finally, and with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the embed, here's Maggie Simpson's short, The Longest Daycare.

I'd vote for Paperman, I think, but there's some actual competition here.

The Oscars happen on the 24th. More on in the meantime, I strongly suspect.

I appreciate the context for Fresh Guacamole. I caught these at the theater today with minimal preconceptions, and my reaction to that one was, "Why?"

Saw Head over Heels at the Colchester Film Festival last year and loved it. I think I actually enjoyed it more than Paperman, although that too was wonderful.
