Default The Muppets.... Again To Feature Classic Songs As Well As New

The Oscar-winning Conchord and The Muppets composer Bret McKenzieis back for more on the upcoming sequel, but the film is also going to feature some numbers from their classic repertoire.

Producer Todd Liberman told Movie Fanaticthat the film:
has tons of new songs, and some old favorites.
Rainbow Connection, Mahna Mahna and The Muppet Show Theme all got an airing last time out. I imagine the theme could turn up again - the plot gives the characters plenty of opportunities to play the music and light the lights, after all - but they'll likely be looking elsewhere in the catalogue for other picks.

Here are my three best guesses at what they might be using. These aren't my favourite Muppet songs, but the ones I think most likely to come back around in ...Again.

    In no particular order, then:

    Incidentally, the way Liberman said:
We got Bret McKenzie back to do the music!
I think he'll be the only composer of new songs on this film, unlike The Muppets.

Production on The Muppets... Again is underway now for a release next spring.

I've lamented on this previously, and I'll probably feel the need to state it every time I see Muppets news:
The last film was terribly overrated, and I'm a huge fan of Segel's writing. I don't know if Disney or Pixar (which apparently consulted on the script) watered it down, but the film had none of the sophistication of the old Muppets (which Henson pitched as "a puppet show for adults"), and the cameos in THE MUPPETS were just sad. To have C & B-listers Whoopi Goldberg and Selena Gomez show up and say "Hi, I'm [fill in the name]" is pointless. Compared w/having Steve Martin in his prime playing a waiter (a nod to his famous short w/Buck Henry) and an also-in-his-prime Richard Pryor flirting w/a chicken. I mean...come on.

Oh, and the original songs were also brilliant: A frog and a dog lamenting about the only option for dating being women, Piggy's WAY over the top love ballad, Gonzo's song w/the line "There's not a word yet, for old friends who've just met."

I'd like a Muppet movie even 1/5 this clever. Oh wait, I had one -- Muppet Caper.

    Thank you and good night.
A Horror tale you won't soon forget:

NOW THE ABOVE LINK ACTUALLY WORKS! (sigh)
(in ePub format, so it works on ALL devices & has an AWESOME cover by horror artist D'wayne Murphy)
