David Fincher Might Be Going To Gone Girl With Reese Witherspoon If 20,000 Leagues Sinks
Disney may still be keeping David Fincher waiting for a green light on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, or possibly even a new Star Wars movie, but he's got options.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fincher is negotiating over at Fox for the director's chair on Gone Girl.
Gillian Flynn is writing the screenplay from her own novel, a twisty thriller about a missing woman whose husband comes under suspicion. The book has an unusual structure, shifting between the couples' points of view in alternating sequences.
There are a few controversial scenes that have had readers feeling a bit cheated, but personally, I like the way this story pans out just fine.
The book, incidentally, was a huge bestseller in the US, beat only by Fifty Shades of Grey in the 2012 charts.
Reese Witherspoon is amongst the producers but apparently won't be appearing in the film. Shame, because she'd be a pretty provocative choice for the title role.
Fincher may yet be called upon to sequelise The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. At the moment, though, Gone Girl seems to have the most momentum. Don't be surprised to see Fox put it on the fast track.
