Default Video: The Making Of Ricky Gervais' Derek

After a boat-rocking pilot last year, Ricky Gervais' Derek is to return to Channel 4 with a full series next week. The show will be making its US premiere on Netflix later in the year.

This half hour "Making of" has a lot of Karl Pilkington highlights, as well as Gervais' explanation of why Derek looks the way he does.

I can see exactly where the controversy comes from, but hearing Gervais explain his position, I wonder if this is more a case of good intentions gone awry than any kind of malice.

Indeed, it may even end up being a case of good intentions landing correctly. We'll see next week.

I've only seen the trailers, but this looks absolutely dreadful. I wonder how many viewers are going to give it a chance, even, seeing as the Pilkington/Merchant/Gervais comedy franchise now seems perhaps the most obnoxious that's been on UK television in a generation. An Idiot Abroad! Those Barclays ads! And now this ...

Yeah- I mean, I love RSK, but... I dunno. Nothing they've done for awhile has really been exciting to me. Maybe it's the lack of Merchant on some of this stuff? I'm beginning to suspect that he's the one behind the things 'I liked in the Office and Extras... even on their old radio show...

I had hoped since it was going to be on Netflix that we'd get it around the same time as the UK. Might need to seek alternative methods.
