Cuse has made it clear that he's not trying to prequelise Hitchock's Psycho, but to spin the mythology off into something new. I think thisDance Party teaser underlined his case pretty boldly.

Breath showed off the character ofEmma Decody, as played by Olivia Cooke. She's one of Norman's classmates and apparently has a key role to play. I met Cooke, briefly, on the set of her upcoming film The Quiet Ones - another creepy part. She's a frontrunner for 2013's scream queen already, I think.
