Default Jonathan Creek Back Next Easter With Sheridan Smith And The Savant's Thumb

I really loveJonathan Creek, the murder mystery show with a practical, sceptical inventor of magic tricks instead of a detective and a dufflecoat instead of a Columbo rain mac.

Last week,Alan Davieswas openly discussing how little he was being offered to reprise the title role. This quote comes from Chortle:
At the moment the BBC want to pay me less than they paid me in 1998, so it's really a bit of a issue in the financial situation.
Issue apparently resolved as the show is now officially set to return at Easter.

The new 90-minute special is to be called The Clue of the Savant's Thumb and will see Davies re-teamed with the ubiquitous Sheridan Smith, once more playing Joey Ross or Phoebe Chandler or Monica Petmonkey or whatever her name was.

And as ever, the script was written by David Renwick.

Despite there being no apparent connection between any of these elements and the title, the story is to involve "asecret society, seemingly supernatural events at a girls? boarding school, and the disappearance of a body in front of three witnesses."

In an ideal world this will be a real humdinger - a good portion of the episodes are properly brilliant, some are frankly demented - and will set us up for more.

If you've never seen the show before, I recommend grabbing the big box and geting stuck in - it's not even fifteen quid for the lot. It's funny and clever and sometimes just fantastically odd.

Here are the quotey bits from the BBC's press release.

Alan Davies says: ?The new story has more than the usual amount of twists and surprises, and I'm very much looking forward to sleuthing again. I can't wait to join Sheridan Smith on set again; we're very lucky to have her. It's nearly 17 years since I first auditioned for the part; the duffle coat is always on standby, even if the periods of duffle-hibernation are quite long these days?.

Pete Thornton, Creative Head, BBC In-House Comedy says: ?A new Creek script from David is always a joy, and this one is especially brilliant. With the dream team of Alan Davies and Sheridan Smith back on board, we?re looking forward to delivering a really special Easter treat for BBC One audiences next year?.

I'm happy with whoever is by Creek's side, they've all worked. This is great news, though I was hoping for a Christmas special.

So...is the episode actually going to be called "Sheridan Smith and the Savant's Thumb"?

Because I can't decide whether that would be insane, amazing, or both.
