Default First Images Of Thor 2's Dark Elves And, We Think, Malekith

These two snaps from the London locations of Thor: The Dark World show a number of dark elves, showing of their rather distinctive look.

One of them stands apart, and has his own design. Is this Malekith, as played byChristopher Eccleston? Well, most probably, yes.

Click through on either of these to make them nice and huge.

Odd Man Out does look like Malekith. He has a star design on his chest that the comics version wore - and if that's too subtle for you, he's got that whole two-face thing going on too.

I suspect we may be looking at a stand-in for a stunt sequence though, because that doesn't really look like Eccleston, make up or not. This would mean, however, that Eccleston will be playing his scenes in this kind of heavy make-up.

Crikey. I wonder how he's taking it?A spoon full of dollars helps the medicine go down, I suppose. Or... ahem... a spoon full of pride at being part of the burgeoning Marvel movie universe. They're doing such amazing things with these comic book movies these days, you know.

Thanks to MTV for paying the paps that took the snaps.

I sure as hell hope that isn't Malekith. I am right now rereading my Simonson omnibus and just read Malekith's main story. The way Walt draws him (very tall and thin with really long blonde curly-ish hair) would be visually stunning and creepy onscreen. That version above would be dull.

I agree, plus the costume needs to be more eye-catching.

I don't think it needs to literally look like Simonson's, but they could capture the spirit of it and include some splashes of color.

I do like the look of the rest of the dark elves, though.

I loved the first movie, so I'm very hopeful for the sequel (but I wish Branaugh had returned).

The costumes look a tad unfinished to me, particularly Malekith's. Perhaps they'll receive some CG touchups and additions before they hit screens?

That's what I was thinking as well. There seems to still very much be an "awaiting post-production finishes" to those images.

Well, they'll be colour graded and that will make a big difference.

There might be some registration marks on Malekith's face, would suggest some sort of CG effect on or around his head, but I wouldn't be too sure about that yet.

Yeah, it's hard to tell the details here, but it does look like there is still some finishing to do. Probably not much, but even a little bit can make a pretty radical difference in how it looks in the movie, depending on what is done.

If that's Eccleston's double, the marks may be for eventual digital face-replacement. I do find it unlikely, however, that there won't be some kind of digital finishes to this design.

Those Dark Elves look pretty cool, and pretty creepy.
Can someone ask Grant Morrison to give me a haircut?
