Default Mission: Impossible 5 To Be Directed By Christopher McQuarrie If Cruise And Abrams Get Their Way

UPDATE: I wrote this story once and it somehow just disappeared, turning into a single word.

    "Way."

Rather than throw my laptop through my TV, I've just going to try and restore the basics. And I mean basics.

Christopher McQuarrie has been working with Tom Cruise a lot lately - he has written and directed Jack Reacher, done rewrite work on other projects, was working on Top Gun 2 before the death of Tony Scott saw that project, most likely, come off the To Do list.

Now, JJ Abrams and Cruise have chosen McQuarrie as their preferred director for Mission: Impossible 5, though Deadline say no director will be hired until after writers come on board. In my original story I said a bunch of stuff about McQuarrie's brain in a ajr at this point - the thrust was that Paramount and Bad Robot should hire him to both write and direct.

Finally, I said that I am looking forward to seeing all but two seconds of Jack Reacher and I linked to my earlier story on the film.

That was the thrust of it. It was just better before. Flowed. Was witty. Might have made some of you gasp in awe.

But I can't rebuild it. Not now. I'm off to throw my laptop through my TV set.

Oh dude thats the worst. I always write stuff like that in word first, then move it.
Can someone ask Grant Morrison to give me a haircut?

McQuarrie's an excellent choice for MI:5. I'd written off Jack Reacher until I saw that he'd directed it. Now I have some hope for it.

    J.J. Abrams:
Yeah, we’re talking to Chris McQuarrie now. I would just say that he’s somebody who -- he did some work on the last one we did [Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol]. I’ve been a fan of his since The Usual Suspects. He’s just a terrific guy, an incredible writer and a really wonderful director, so we’d be lucky to get him.

    IGN:
I know better than trying to ask any Star Trek story questions, but are you excited, with the IMAX footage debut, that it’s at least going to give people all-new questions to bug you about once they see the footage?

    Abrams:
You know, I’m excited because we’ve been working on this for awhile, and the idea of getting some of the movie out there to the world is going to be a real thrill for us - and as always you just hope people will like what they see!

    IGN:
The IMAX footage in Ghost Protocol was stunning - my personal favorite use of IMAX for a scripted movie so far. What was it like on Trek to use that format?

    Abrams:
It was amazing. Part of it was challenging because of the technical aspects of it, the machinery of it. The cameras themselves are a little unwieldy and a little loud and unpredictable. But then you go to dailies and you watch on this massive screen these images that you’ve shot having been filmed on a negative that’s eight times bigger than what you normally use, and you cannot believe how good it looks. So that’s exciting! But unlike Ghost Protocol, a lot of what we shot is integrated into special effects and visual effects in a way that I cannot wait for people to see. I think it really is mind-blowing, how it looks. The IMAX frame, I think, is really the best way to see a movie.
