Default Benicio Del Toro Lined Up To Play Pablo Escobar

Andrea di Stefano has had a successful career in acting, most recently completing a role in Life of Pi. Next up, though, he's planning to make his directorial debut with Paradise. based on his own screenplay.

According to Variety, the film will tell the story of Nick, a young surfer who visits Colombia, meets and falls in love with a local girl... only to find out that she is the niece of Pablo Escobar.

Benicio Del Toro is finishing up his negotiations to play Escobar now. Bang on. Of course, it will likely take him out of the running for any future film version of Mark Bowden's Killing Pablo.

While alive, Escobar was a hugely charismatic hero of many Columbians, but also man who had risen to power and prominence as a drug trafficker. He had a short-lived side career in politics and it was some of his billions, if rumours are to be believed, that funded the Medellin football team, turning them into something of a small success.

The structure of di Stefano's film has been compared to The Last King of Scotland: a foreigner enters into the circle of some notorious true-life character, and through the pair's developing relationship, we get a dramatic look at this historical figure 'as a human being.'

Del Toro seems like great casting; he also seems like attention grabbing, Academy mesmerising casting. As such, I predict we'll be hearing a phenomenal amount about this film over the next couple of years.

In The Last King of Scotland, we saw what type of 'human being' that monster really was.
And Andrea Di Stefano looks like he could be Chris Parnell's brother.
