Default Rumour: Several DC Comics Characters To Team Up For Guillermo Del Toro Movie

Standing apart from Justice League and their ilk are several DC characters with at least one foot in the supernatural. There's Deadman, The Spectre, John Constantine, the Phantom Stranger, Etrigan, Zatanna, Zatara, arguably Swamp Thing.

Well, if this rumour turns out to be true, several of these - if not all of them - could feature in a single upcoming movie.

Latino Review say that Guillermo Del Toro is planning something called Heaven Sent* that will draw on DC's books of magic, as it were, to leverage the library in a slightly more off-centre way than Justice League ever would.

There's little more to the report, just word that:
Warner?s lawyers have been working every night trying to clear the rights to all these characters.
So to call it early days, even, might be a little premature.

Del Toro, it is worth noting, did put in a couple years work developing Deadman before his attention shifted to The Hobbit. This may be an evolution of those plans... or it may be pure bunkum.

We've put our feelers out. If there's anything even a little more solid on this, we'll be back to report again.

*No more than a working title, surely?

    Sting = John Constantine.

    (Not Keanu please.)

    Swamp Thing seems most obvious

This sounds way more interesting than a Justice League movie.

Halfway through the project, Del Toro will leave to pursue fifteen other projects.

Could be really awesome, especially with Del Toro involved. Unfortunately he always plans more projects that he has time to actually make them.

I am out of breath just thinking about this.

I love these characters. I love Del Toro movies.

    This is a perfect match.

I only worry that it will be too DC and not enough Vertigo and trying to shoehorn all these characters into one film might not give them all time to shine.

Meanwhile.. one of many pipe dreams.. even ones with Del Toro.. I'd love to see him produce a Sandman television series along with Neil Gaiman. There is no way I want Sandman turned into a movie. It has to be a series or series of mini series.

To want something so bad is not very strange..
Perhaps there is a deal that we could arrange..
If you want something badly, the bell must toll..
Really what is the worth of just one soul?
