Default The Red Star Is Josh Trank\'s Latest Comics-To-Film Project

From the pre-release buzz on Chronicle, director Josh Trank was linked to Fantastic Four. Then after, the film's release he was put in the frame with the in-development Venom movie. It's not yet known if either of those conversations are going to lead anywhere, but Trank has nonetheless gone and put another piece on the board.

As per Deadline, Warner Bros. have Trank developing a movie from Christian Gosset's The Red Star comics.

Here's a blurb for the original:
Set in the latter days of the imaginary U.R.R.S. (United Republics of the Red Star), this critically acclaimed story follows the heroes of the Red Star as they discover their country's true intentions in a war against a smaller neighbor state; a revelation that leads the soldiers on a quest to liberate their nation from its dark legacy of oppression.
Gossett has said that the series is set in "Mythic Russia" which sounds interesting. An unreleased tie-in videogame was also developed and never released, but apparently swims about on the black market.

Jason Rothenberg is already working on a script for the film. We'd don't really know his work too well yet, but Rothenberg has recently adapted The Twilight Zone into a new screenplay for Matt Reeves and contributed to the TV pilot The Body Politic.

Note that work is underway on a screenplay for a second Chronicle film - and still nobody has mentioned Trank in association with that. I can't help but wonder if writer Max Landis is in line to graduate to the megaphone for that one?

So it looks like, one day before too long, Josh Trank will direct another movie. As for what it will be, I don't think we have any real idea as yet. Of the three options we know about so far, I have to say that this one, The Red Star, is the one that's captured my imagination the most.

The Xbox version of the game was never released but it was released on Playstation 2 (2007), PSP (2010) and iOS (2010).

Whatever happened to the comic, anyway? I was a big fan of it when it started all those years ago, but then it just kind of faded away. Did it ever wrap up, or did it join the likes of Xenozoic, Stray Bullets, and Battle Chasers in permanent limbo?

The last collected edition I have here (Sword of Lies) was published in January 2009. Ended on a cliffhanger, as well!
