Default Nice: Lauren Faust's Supergirl, As Seen In Her DC Nation Show

Lauren Faust was a story artist and writer on The Powerpuff Girls and Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, as well as serving as the first creative director on the current My Little Pony series and getting that off to a blazing start.

For her next trick, she's launching a DC Nation short called Super Best Friends Forever.

We've seen an illicit, snapped-from-a-screen version of this picture before, but it's certainly worth revisiting now that it's clear.

Meet Kara Zor-El by way of Faust.

That's great, but I really want to see the show moving. I dig Faust's designs, make no mistake, but I much rather when they aren't frozen like that, no matter how much energy and action she has caught with the pose.

Hopefully there will be an installment of Super Best Friends Forever in the first DC Nation block on March 3rd.

I hope she just straight up starts adapting Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade.

    Man, I miss that comic.

And there will still be people who claim DC is not doing enough to appeal to a young audience.

Animation and comic books aren't the same thing.

The problem is that when they do thing to expand their readership, they don't publicize it enough. It's still seen as a hobby for grown men with tits.
Animation and films are nice for raising awareness of the characters, but I think it's pretty clear the problem about comic books has never been about people not being aware of these characters...

In that regards, DC has the same problem as Marvel: they seem to think an all ages line marketed to comic shops will somehow bring in young readers to their regular line.

Definitely. It's certainly not a company problem. It's a general comics industry problem.

Oh, no, I still blame the companies. They could do a lot more to get comics in to kid's hands. In the last five years or so they've actively set out to stop appealing to readers under the age of 18. DC is at least trying to stop that now.
