Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one charming young man, and a talented actor to boot. Of course, it doesn't end there.
For his next trick, Gordon-Levitt is to star in a film that he is himself directing, and which he has also written. He's cast himself as a Don Juan figure, and cast Scarlett Johansson as one of the female leads. Now, a lot of people would do that, but how many could?*
And I'll bet you anything that the film winds up being pretty darn good.
Deadline give a very basic set up for the storyline:A sexy comedy about about a modern-day Don Juan, and his quest to become less of a ?selfish dick.? [Gordon-Levitt] plays that character, and there is another female lead role that will be filled shortly.
Not to keep beating the same drum, but I'm sure collective hipsterdom is crossing their fingers and praying for a 500 Days of Summer rematch with Ms. Zooey Deschanel. People like Joe and Zooey together.
Gordon-Levitt says that it has taken him a few tries to formulate a screenplay he's happy with:This is the first time I finished a feature film I thought was good enough to make into a movie. I?ve written others, including one mammothy huge sprawling thing that encompasses my entire point of view of everything since I was 20 years old.
What's so good about this one?I wrote myself a helluva role, one that people wouldn?t necessarily thought of me for.
It's not clear when production will begin on this, the first fully vertically integrated Joseph Gordon-Levitt joint, but there is apparently some risk of a scheduling clash with Django Unchained. Oh... boo.
Here's hoping that Gordon-Levitt has another skill, in tricky date book balancing.
*Apparently two - Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Woody Allen.
