Default Is One Of Sam Raimi's Flying Monkeys Of Oz Entering A World Of Pain? UPDATE

The Flying Monkeys of Oz are hideous beasts of terror. No wonder that Sam Raimi has found space for them in his Wizard prequel, Oz The Great and Powerful.

Our first looked at one of these winged nightmares has been posted to Facebook by an extra on the film - at least according to Perez Hilton who isn't linking his source and has watermarked the image. Tsk.

I don't know why Walter Sobchak has bothered blurring his face out. He's not fooling anybody.

Oz: The Great and Powerful is due next year, and stars James Franco in the title role. As has been much discussed, it will feature sequences in sepia; as has been less discussed, those sequences will be in something like Academy ratio.

The film's screenplay is by David Lindsay-Abaire and the cast also includes Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams as witches of varying degrees of wickedness.

I'm finding so many reasons to be interested in this movie. The monkey picture is just a cherry.

UPDATE: Commenters on Perez's site have outed this as a Halloween party picture - but not, as I was suspecting, a Halloween party on set where the crew dressed up and the monkeys stayed as they were.

I've never seen a Halloween costume this good. Not nearly this good. I guess it's because I live in England where nobody really bothers.

Yeah, seems kind of obvious if you've got a guy who is obviously dressed like a movie character on one side, that this is far more likely to be a photo from a costume party where someone really goes all out.

Well, that would mean Perez is lying. And that somebody had a face make-up job that good for their Halloween costume. And that there isn't somebody dressed as Walter Sobchak on every movie set.

Well the first two are easy. Perez lying is a pretty common thing and, while makeup that good is not common for Halloween over here, it does happen and it's not exactly rare. Generally see people like that on the news every year.

James Franco is in that film? Christ, do not want. Forget me ever watching that, then.
