Lilly Collins recently dropped out of the lead role in the Evil Dead remake, with her official reason being a scheduling conflict - perhaps, I suspect, a clash with a particularly important bit of hair washing.
That left the project back at square one and actors: zero, but tonight, another step forwards.
Variety have revealed the casting of Shiloh Fernandez in the male lead role. He's used to horrific things happening down by the cabin, because he was in Red Riding Hood - essentially a serious of horrific things happening down by a series of cabins.
As I understand it, the lead-lead is the female part that Ms. Collins has passed on, but Fernandez will be taking up the chief supporting character.
Fernandez has also won the lead role in Deep Powder, a film to be directed by Mo Ogrodnik who - small world - has also taught some of my previous students, but none of whom seem to know anything about it.
I don't want to drop the same spoilers into this post too, but we've previously run some details on what will set the Evil Dead remake apart from the original film - besides thirty-some years and millions in the budget. It certainly sounds intriguing. Here's hoping untested director Fede Alvarez is up to the job.
It's probably worth noting, for those who have joined the trail late, that Fernandez won't be playing Ash or an Ash analog, because there isn't one in the film.
