None other than Jeff Smith, creator of my beloved Bone, called Alex Robinson's graphic novel Too Cool to be Forgotten his "favorite comic of the year" and, since then, I've been intending to read it.
But... erm... yeah. Been busy. There's always a movie on somewhere, you know?
No excuse really. But now I can call at least call it research for work as screenwriters have been set up to adapt the comic to a movie. Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko have signed on to write, with Red Crown Productions' Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Daniel Crown producing alongside Likely Story?s Anthony Bregman.
Here's the blurb for the comic book:Andy Wicks is a forty-something father of two who?s tried everything to quit smoking - from going cold turkey, to the latest patches and nicotine chewing gums - so he figures he'll give this hypnosis thing a try. What's the worst that could happen? Unfortunately, Andy gets dealt a fate worse than death - high school! Transported back to 1985, Andy returns to his formative years as a gangly, awkward teenager. Is he doomed to relive the mistakes of his past, or has he been given a second chance to get things right? One thing's for sure: this time he?s going to ask out that girl from math class...
Back to the Family Man's Hot Tub Peggy Sue Machine.
It's all in the execution of course. Now... if you've read the comic can you tell me, does the 1985 setting pan out with a trip to see Back to the Future at the cinema? Because, you know, if I found myself back then, I'm pretty sure that would be one of the first things I'd do.
