Default John Carter Featurette Brings The New Footage And It\'s Good

Having seen some full scenes from John Carter I'm pretty well convinced that it's going to be a good film, with good storytelling and lots of great cinematic ideas. I do acknowledge, however, that this hasn't exactly been coming over in the trailers.

Better, though, is this featurette. Have a look, and then we'll discuss it.

Okay, that voice over is not great - but it could have been much, much worse.

There are some hints of the good stuff here - like the beat where Carter gets the dust thrown in his face, and he then spits it out; or when Dejah Thoris grabs the sword, reveals her prowess and Carter decides he should maybe be hiding behind her.

Honestly, the scenes I've seen were witty and imaginative and used editing in some very clever ways. This featurette isn't getting anywhere near that top quality, just yet, but those are some good beats.

Here's hoping the rest of the marketing campaign steps it up a notch and rolls out more of the smart and witty stuff.

Thanks to Little Bleeder Jerome for the heads up.

I'm looking forward to this, ta for sharing the video, Brendon.

I do think they're bonkers, though, for dropping the Mars reference from the title - 'John Carter' sounds like a very dull ER spin-off (and yes, I know this John Carter came first - and wasn't there also a JC on ITV's Holiday with Judith Chalmers? Am so old).

Maybe the most "Stantonian" (character-driven action, humor...) teaser yet.

i agree, the whole shtick of John Carter is that he's "OF MARS" take that out and those who aren't aware won't even realise it's from the books and so one, it's really dumb to be honest.

Amazing that it took 100 years for a film to be made from this.

Eh, the previews open the alien bits up. I'm not all that worried about the title, though I do think it's a bit plain.

The movie looks promising. Much more so than the sterile AVENGERS. The the worldbuilding the director has done with the technologies, Dejah Thoris, Woola, and the aliens (yeah, I know John Carter is the alien here, I mean the multi-arm guys) is really well done. I think I'm going to like this movie. In fact, I hope this movie does so well that the sequels are scheduled and committed to immediately. But I doubt that's going to happen. The taste of the movie-going audiences of this country have deteriorated so badly that great stories like the Barsoom series WILL NEVER gain traction and will thus never be developed for movies. The big comic book movies of DC and Marvel of the Summer of 2011 WERE ALL AWFUL: THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, X-MEN FIRST CLASS and GREEN LANTERN. Does anyone feel the urge to see any of those again? Of course not. Their stories were all practically non-existent.

I hope John Carter does really well at the box office but I doubt it. Sci Fi pulp heroes are the perfect antidote to these HORRIBLE BOILERPLATE COMIC BOOK MOVIES from DC and Marvel.

I mean what the hell was Warner Bros thinking when they were putting Green Lantern together?? Was there no one in the chain of command who has read a great comic book in their entire lives?? Anyone with even a small measure of taste could see that the Green Lantern movie was going to be a piece of shit. Has anyone asked Geoff Johns what he thought of the Green Lantern movie? And what did he say?

At the risk of seriously wasting my time, it seems pretty obvious that your "Of course not" is a false answer. Many people already have watched most (if not all) of those movies more than once and, equally as obvious, choose (even want) to do so again.

Qward-O, if you were a superhero, you would be called Opposite Man, because your thinking is the complete opposite of the majority.
