Default First Clip From Red Lights - Supernatural Thriller With De Niro, Sigourney, Cillian Murphy, Elizabeth Olsen

Red Lights is the next picture from Buried director Rodrigo Cortes, and if that's not enough for you, look at the cast list: Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy, Elizabeth Olsen. I can't wait.

The film has premiered at Sundance, where it has met great acclaim for its creepiness and scary ideas, and a lot of critical brickbats for its ending which... nobody seems to understand.

Here's the first clip, which mentions the red lights of the title but doesn't exactly explain them.

    Most intriguing.

I'm excited to see this film, and to find out if the ending means anything to me. And even if it does all close out on some kind of fizzle, the promise of a nice, creepy thriller is still exciting.

Ha! I have to laugh! Where in the world are you reading that this film is critically acclaimed? I saw it at Sundance last night and have to say it is the worst I have seen out of 12 films so far. I loved Buried so I was so looking forward to it. Boy was I wrong.

The director cannot find the right tone for the film and is way too serious for its own good. The actors work with what they have but so many scenes are so cheesy you can't help but roll your eyes. And even De Niro seems lost in this mess of a script, (also worth noting that De Niro did not let this film into Tribeca (his festival) and I am willing to bet because he is embarrassed to be in the film now that he has seen the finished product.

And don't even get me started on an ending so stupid that it makes the recent M. Knight movies look like masterpieces. Five other people I have talked too in lines felt it was as stupid as I did and one even said she felt embarrassed for the actors. I did run across one other person that actually liked the film but they admitted to not understanding everything. I think some people think it is deep and layered but if they actually pieced it together they would realize their is nothing deep about the movie and it is nothing but a colossal disappointment.

As I said - acclaim for the scares, brickbats for the ending.

It's not clear from what I know how much is spoilery or not. Let's just say "the supernatural" and let the clip do the rest.

Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver play paranormal investigators who go out to prove all these people who talk to the dead and what not are hoaxes. The one person who they have yet to prove is a hoax is a character played by Robert De Niro. They spy on him and spend the movie trying to find out how he bends spoons with his mind and do other fantastic stuff. Elizabeth Olsen is the other star in the movie and is a student of Sigourney Weaver who hangs around to give Murphy someone to talk too and has no real reason to be in the movie.
