Default Friday Film Review - Coriolanus, Haywire And Chronicle

This week's two most interesting releases are Coriolanus, reworking Shakespeare as a modern war film, and Haywire, which contains some of the best action you will ever see. Ever.

Also on the slate is Chronicle, which is coming on the 1st of February in the UK and the 3rd in the US. I'm sure I'll talk about that a lot more in the coming weeks, but having seen it last night, I was excited enough to bring it up on the show today.

Show? Yeah. Here's the audio of my Friday film review with Sophie from Glide FM .

I saw the midnight showing of Haywire. I felt it was great action/fight scenes and great cinematography, but it had horrible directing. The main actress is NOT an actress (literally, she's an MMA/Gladiator/whatever fighter with this her first major film). They distorted her voice to make it sound deeper yet in doing so they made her seem too stoic and unemotional with all of her lines being deadpanned. The other professional actors were sadly pretty bad (worst film for Ewan McGregor). Even a scene of McGregor trying to look reminiscent made him appear bored and unemotional. Michael Douglas was the exception, he did a great job. Well, Antonio Banderas did appear to be a legit douche in his scenes, which I'm hoping was intentional...

I enjoyed the fight scenes and such, but I expected more from Steven Soderbergh. I say see it as a matinee.

I'll be watching Haywire through the window at work, but I already caught a few bits of it yesterday. Looks pretty good. I wasn't expecting it to be anything life changing.

That Gina Carano, though. Never heard of her before, but I am now...Something of a fan.

    *ahem*
