Default Jack The Giant Killer Gets Pushed Back To March 2013 - But Why?

    Something's amiss.

I've read a couple of drafts of the screenplay for Brian Singer's Jack the Giant Killer, and while I don't really know how concordant they will be to the finished film, I can say that I recognised pretty much everything in the first trailer - sorry, announcement clip. I also realised that there was a lot more going on than that video let on and that, actually, this film looked to have a lot of neat tricks up its sleeve.

So I'm particularly surprised to see Deadline's report that Jack has hit the road and hiked all the way from its Summer release date, way back into 2013.

Now, Jack's studio, Warner Bros. have already made use of its June 15th release date by pushing Rock of Ages back a fortnight and into that slot, and at the same time, they've pulled potential 2013 release Arthur and Lancelot from their schedule altogether, suggesting that they're less likely than ever to give it the green light. Does this suggest that the Jack move has less to do with Jack, per se, and more to do with the overall shape of their datebook? Very possibly. Rock of Ages has supposedly been testing very well, so maybe the studio is very focused on giving that the best platform, by any means.

But it also means that Jack's going to pick up a strange little stigma, and that questions are going to be asked.

Some distance on the great Snow White wars of 2012 can only help Jack out here, I think.

I think the average moviegoer isn't going to notice or care or even knows the difference between a summer, winter or fall release date and what it means for a studio's confidence in a movie.

I'm with Joe. Insiders can read all sorts of things into the situation - my uninformed guess would be the datebook, spreading out films so as not to clash with similar, or not wishing to distract from other things - but the film will show up at some point and we can enjoy it or not.

People with six months to live, not so much.

Well, of course not. But are we the average?

No, we're not, but your "strange little stigma" line struck me as being for a more general audience.

The original Jack was one of my fave films, as a kid. Who's that in the picture? Oh hang on, IMDB implies star Nicholas Hoult?

Nicholas Hoult, who played Beast in X-Men: First Class and was in the Clash of the Titans remake.

I only saw the original at a Rifftrax event but it seemed fun.

It's great, you don't get many fantasy films set in Cornwall, and those witches gave me the willies.

Who knows?Maybe it has something to do with Wrath of the Titans, which opens in March.Maybe WB didn't want to have their 2 movies about heroes fighting giants opening 2 and a half months apart.

March 2013 is an interesting date because there are already several genre movies scheduled that month.Elysium, Oz: The Great and Powerful, Ender's Game, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters and The Host.A lot of competition.

I'd think April would be a good month. It's actually wide open. The only film currently scheduled is the Evil Dead remake.
