Default Hancock 2 "Will Happen", Story Idea Comes From Will Smith

As well as the rush to adapt pretty much every caped character who graced the four-colour page into a big screen franchise, the last ten years have also seen an incredible amount of movies based on original superheroes. The most expensive, and highest profile, I believe, was Hancock, Peter Berg's super-powered Will Smith vehicle from 2008.

Most of the talk about a Hancock sequel came before the first film was released - it's always seems to go this way, that's when the hype has its most value - but the film's box-office was pretty healthy, with over $620 million, worldwide on a $150 budget. The idea of a follow up isn't insane, it's just that we haven't heard anything in so long.

Though now Peter Berg has apparently told CBM that work towards a follow-up continues:
We've been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva goldman and myself. We're all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for sequel -- and Will Smith actually had the idea -- so I think it will happen, it's just a question of timing.

In case you didn't know, Will Smith is some kind of storytelling genius. Jada Pinkett-Smith (as it was then, at least) once told us that Will is:
a master structuralist as far as story is concerned - there?s no-one better in the business than him in my opinion. He understands the pulse of what people want to see, how to create the maximum emotional impact.

We were sceptical about her claaim then, and we're sceptical about it now.

Anyway, Hancock 2. Okay. Fine. I can't say I was looking forward to it, but anyhow, I'll give it a chance. Does anybody feel any more excited than that?

Oh Hancock. A great basic premise ruined by a heap of pointless and incomprehensible mythologising. A sequel is completely unnecessary, but since when did that stop anyone in Hollywood doing anything?

Oh Jada Pinkett-Smith, when will you realize that your husband is not a master structuralist but a master of overacting

It'll probably involve him discovering he has a son/daughter (depending on which of his kids wants to act today) he never knew who is just starting to develop their own powers, he'll teach them how to use them, while learning a lesson about something himself.

    I loved Hancock.

Especially his "half hour". Not sure what the fuck the fresh prince had to do with it though?
