Default Tuesday Rushes Part One - The Artist, Fox Vs. Lohan, Sherlock, Looper, Expendables 2 And More

Some audience members have gone into The Artist unaware that it is a silent film, or that it is in the Academy ratio, and have walked out looking for a refund. I'm sure every film has its fair share of walk outs and money-back seekers, but those are pretty poor reasons, I think.

Splice star Delphine Chanéac stars in Eve, a new 3D sci-fi short set in an Eden of the future, after nature has claimed back the planet. Pina's Josephine Derobe is the stereographer.

The Cinema Guild have launched SPARK, a new label dedicated to documentaries about the arts and media. First up is Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone and The Woman with the Five Elephants, about a translator of Russian literature. Many documentaries can get a long way on their subject matter, but those two would struggle with me.

Pawel Pawlikowski lived in the same block of flats as me. Just not at the same time. I think he moved in pretty quickly after I moved out. I wonder if it was the exact same flat? You can never tell. Anyway... none of that helps set you up at all for this trailer for The Woman in the Fifth, his next picture. That's for the best, probably. Let the trailer do its thing.

Nicole Kassell's extremely wobbly but certainly not dreadful "terminal illness romcom" Little Bit of Heaven is finally headed to US cinemas. I think it's about a year since it played in the UK. I remember Peter Dinklage's cameo well.

Also very delayed is Dustin Lance Black's Virginia, with Ed Harris and Jennifer Connelly, but that's coming to US screens in the Spring. It's about "a charming yet mentally ill mother, and the married Mormon sheriff who may be the father of her son."

Warner Bros. are using a new 4k transfer as the basis of the Casablanca 70th anniversary Blu-ray. There are some new supplements too.

The BBC have reconfirmed that a third series of Sherlock has already been commissioned. That was a no-brainer, but the question is: when will it air? So far the official line is:
The third series of Sherlock has yet to be scheduled.

Geoge Lucas says that, now Red Tails is done, he intends to focus on "personal" films, pictures that are:
small in scope, esoteric in subject and screened mostly in art houses.

Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan are contenders for the role of Elizabeth Taylor in a new biopic.

Hasbro would like to set themselves up as the new Marvel Entertainment and produce their own movies. I bet that still won't give me the Candyland-Ouija-Risk-Battleship crossover that I want.

Seth Gordon, sometime King of Kong hero and latterly the perpetrator of Four Christmases and Horrible Bosses, has signed on to direct Identity Theft. Somehow one or the other of Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman is going to steal the other's identity. Somebody please send Gordon back to documentaries. For good.

The Oscars website has been updated with a video of Billy Crystal giving his approval. Which is lucky.

Here's a clip from The Moth Diaries, directed by American Psycho's Mary Harron.

Karen Gillan says that the Ponds will return to Doctor Who for:
a few episodes. A few really good episodes.

When the Expendables 2 gets a PG-13, it'll be because of edits demanded by Chuck Norris, apparently:
In Expendables 2, there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. Fot this reason, many young people wouldn't be able to watch this. But I don't play in movies like this. Due to that I said I won't be a part of that if the hardcore language is not ereased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13.

Joseph Gordon Levitt underwent three hours of prosthetics work a day so that he could look like a younger Bruce Willis in Looper. Director Rian Johnson sells the performance under the rubber, however:
The biggest thing is Joe's performance, he's really doing Bruce in a big and daring way, but he strikes a balance between obviously imitating Bruce and also building this organic performance.

With all the buzz around this FRENCH (YESSSSSSSS!!!!) movie, they should have certainly heard that it is a B&W/4:3/silent movie. Please, tell me that they were not English people... Please...
    Aut Pax. Aut Bellum.

Support the comic book indy scene.

Question about the mainstreamed comic books: why I am still buying the singles when the trades are well inexpensive? Why?
I am doing the DC and Vertigo singles... and the new titles of 2011/12 are already listed on Amazon at real lower prices in trade format!!!
    Am I stupid?

I'm not sure about either Fox or Lohan, but I was looking at something the other week and there was a picture of Lily Collins, where I did actually think she was the very image of a young Liz Taylor, wish I could find it again.
