Default What's Going To Be On The Muppets Blu-Ray? UPDATED With Official Specs

We're still waiting for The Muppets to reach UK cinemas on February 10th, but the US are now sitting patiently for the eventual home entertainment release on March 28th.

I've been keeping an eye on the film's Amazon page to see when the Blu-ray and DVD specs were uploaded, and it hasn't happened yet...

...but I have just received an e-mail from a fellow Muppet fanatic carrying a break down of what we can expect on the Blu-ray. For now, this isn't a final list, but it will give you a good idea of what to expect.
    • The longest Muppet blooper reel ever
    • A behind the scenes featurette "Scratching the Surface"
    • The complete Tex Richman song in a featurette called "Explaining Evil"
    • The table read - The Muppets get together and read the film's screenplay before production begins
    • The parody trailers
    • An audio commentary
Not quite all I had hoped for - and note that there's no sign of the deleted scenes with the Muppets in prison, and cameos from Danny Trejo, Wanda Sykes and more.

According to my colleague in Muppetlove, these aren't likely to appear on the disc at all. For now, there's apparently no plans to release them anywhere.

UPDATE: The officially released specs DO include the deleted scenes!
    • BD Exclusive: The Longest Blooper Reel Ever Made (In Muppet History) -- Includes Muppets! Stars! And One Ridiculously Long Chicken Joke! What More Do You Need?
    • Scratching The Surface: A Hasty Examination Of The Making Of THE MUPPETS -- A Surprisingly Shallow But Profoundly Absurd Look At Muppets And Humans Working Together To Make Cinematic History
    • Deleted Scenes
    • A Little Screen Test On The Way To The Read-Through -- The Muppets Bring The Wocka Wocka Wocka To A Routine Camera Test
    • Explaining Evil: The Full Tex Richman Song
    • Unreleased Theatrical Spoof Trailers - And More!
    • Audio Commentary - With Jason Segel, James Bobin, And Nicholas Stoller
    • Disney Intermission - Pause The Movie And See What Happens!
But what's this about a screen test on the way to the read through? Where's the actual read through?

The Wocka Wocka value pack is going to contain a Blu-ray, a DVD, a digital copy and a download code for the film's soundtrack. I'll let you know if the Blu-ray is region locked as soon as I can find out.

Not that I'd suggest you skip this one in cinemas, not for a second. Talk about a crowd pleaser.

    Roll on February 10th.

Can someone explain this Triple Play bullshit to me? If I wanted the film on DVD, I wouldn't be buying the frigging Blu-Ray. I don't mind the digital copy, but there's no reason why they should be charging extra for it. All they're really doing it charging me extra for a very expensive coaster. Why the hell is this suddenly a thing? They weren't handing out casettes with CD releases when they took over as the most popular format. Or VHS with DVDs for that matter...

The actors got paid whether they were in the film or not.

Disney does it because they figure a number of households have a DVD in the SUV or in the kids' rooms. I know we watch Toy Story on the PS3 and pop the DVD in the car.

Which explains Disney, but pretty much every movie I own on Blu-Ray has a DVD thrown in, and they aren't all kids movies. It gets even worse, at times. My copy of Attack The Block is a "Double Play", which is Blu-Ray and DVD with no code for a digital copy, even though it wouldn't cost them any extra to throw it in. Grr...

Well, can't speak to whatever Blu-Rays you own, but the last several I bought are Blu-Ray only. I know X-Men First Class had the option. Generally Walmart has the packs but Best Buy has different types.

Most that I've seen have an option. You can buy the blu-ray or you can buy the blu-ray/DVD combo pack (which is usually the one that comes with extras though). I actually like it because I have my PS3 which is a blu-ray player, but I also sometimes watch movies on other TVs/computers which don't have a blu-ray player. It's not really an accurate comparison to VHS because a VHS tape was a big bulky unwieldy thing. A blu-ray can fit in the same size case as you would have gotten otherwise. And people didn't have VHS players hooked up to their computers or cars or portable laptop size VHS players, etc.

hmmm.... OK, maybe I was wrong about the option thing. I just looked on Amazon and didn't see that many with a choice as I thought. The only one I could find was Green Lantern. The Green Lantern Blu-Ray/DVD combo also includes the extended cut of the movie and special features while the blu-ray only has just the movie. The price difference between the two is really about the same as the price difference between a one-disc blu-ray set and the "special edition" blu-rays so I really don't think you're paying for the extra DVD. In general, I don't think you're paying for the extra DVD much if at all. There's very little cost associated with it. They're milking more money out of people by doing it because the person who looks at it at the store and says "I'd like this movie on Blu-ray, but I'd also like to watch it at (wherever), so I guess I'll get this DVD which is cheaper" will instead get the Blu-Ray because now they still can watch it at wherever that place was he/she wanted to watch it at. I highly doubt that the Captain America Blu-Ray special edition would be priced much differently (if at all) then the Blu-Ray/DVD combo edition, but they can squeak out a few more sales for a very minimal extra cost.
