Default Weekly New Release Review - Shame And Goon

Here's an excerpt of me from GlideFM on Friday morning, talking about Shame, one of the week's new releases. I also catch up on Goon which came out last week in the UK, but is still some weeks off in the US and its native Canada.

I'll be running one of these every Friday from here on out, with a similar thing for DVDs and Blu-rays on Mondays.

Also, on Monday I'll point out how you'll be able to listen live, should you ever want to.

I had a really fun time with Goon as well, Slap Shot was the classic to beat, and it actually came damn close. Alison Pill nearly ran away with it in places, much as she did in Scott Pilgrim, and Liev Schrieber was way more intimidating here than he ever was as Sabretooth. I do confess to being not quite in the right headspace, as I'm not an Ice Hockey fan perse, but a friend had forwarded me this fascinating article about Derek Boogaard, who passed away last year, and it had been such an eye opener I was kind of hoping the film was going to maybe get into that same territory of what a nearly one way trip it is to be an "Enforcer". It didn't really get there, but once I jettisoned the reality, and got into sports comedy mode I had a good time with it. They did NOT shy away from the punch-ups though...brutal.
